June 4, 201313 yr Does the HPV vaccine prevent it? Cure it? Both? It is a vaccine, ideally given to boys and girls when they are 12, but can be given up until early 20's. I don't know why it isn't given later, except maybe it needs to be given before any possible exposure. I remember when it first came out, some parents acted like it was giving permission for children to have sex. I remember my pediatrician saying how crazy that was. If you have ever seen a woman dying of cervical cancer (usually caused by HPV), you would never say that. If you can prevent it in your daughter, you certainly should want to. When it came out, it was only offered to girls, so my boys missed it too.

Last summer was the first time my pediatrician suggested it for my son. I was reluctant then only because it was brand new for the boys. If the doc recommends it again after a year of being available, I will have my son(s) vaccinated. Cancer does not judge, and neither will I.
June 4, 201313 yr My xwife helped develope the vaccine in cincy. I was offered the chance to take it by my dr a few years ago (I'm now 36) but he said at that age insurance won't cover it.
