My xwife helped develope the vaccine in cincy. I was offered the chance to take it by my dr a few years ago (I'm now 36) but he said at that age insurance won't cover it.

 

For us connoisseurs what is the out of pocket cost?

I read where it's about $130 per dose, and you need three doses in a 6 month period.

This is a vaccine that halts the spread of a virus we KNOW causes cancer later in life. What more do you want from modern medicine?

A little dated, but here is some info. The HPV Vaccine Controversy It is NOT the panacea some would have you believe. Though I am not one of those people who are against vaccines and medicines as a rule, this one I have always questioned.

I would love to see you sell that logic to parents whose children died before vaccines became available.

 

I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to poison my children, thus preventing them from getting deadly/crippling diseases.

Vaccines save lives, prevent lifelong disability, and save money in the big picture

 

The polio vaccine costs very little. The potential cost of having polio is enormous, and most certainly some industry would benefit from it. Not to mention lifelong problems for the child.

Who's said it's a panacea? I'll go along with those that don't want the vaccination mandated. But we know that the two vaccines developed to this point do a decent job of targeting two or three of the most dangerous forms of HPV. There will be new versions of the vaccines as we continue to develop them and they'll only get better.

There are a LOT of people who would have you believe this is a panacea. Not saying anyone on this board said or believed that, but there are many that do. And I think the effectiveness of this vaccine is questionable at best, with no long term side effects known yet. I'm not saying the drug shouldn't exist, I'm just saying people should really look into it and think about it before making a choice to use it.

My children are current on all of their vaccinations too and always will be I think. I just am very skeptical of any government mandated pharma regulations. They are all crooks and all of their pockets are lined by these pharmaceutical companies. I have a very hard time believing that all of the vaccinations are needed especially with the current schedule.

1. HPV can cause cancer of the cervix, and the throat. (Other types of cancer?)

2. HPV is so widely spread that almost all sexually active men and women will get HPV at some point in their life.

3. HPV is spread by sexual activity, including oral sex--"the gateway sex".

 

My Conclusions:

The vaccine has been highly recommended for girls for the past few years.

The HPV risk with oral sex really puts a whole new spotlight on the virus and the vaccine.

The vaccine is relatively new for the boys. I'll do my research, ask the doc, and decide.

 

One other consideration---does the vaccine stop the spread of HPV?

If it's effective in preventing the virus, it should also prevent you from being a carrier, too. And that's a good thing .

My problem with the ask the doc approach is aren't these big pharma companies lining the pockets of the doctors? Yes, in fact they are. Doctors (not all) are prescribing far more medicines and vaccines than what are probably needed.

I have been a nurse for a very long time. I have seen physicians prescribe very expensive medications hundreds of times because a pharm rep recommended it. It happens. There are many ways to treat disease, and a doctor has that discretion. Sometimes they have financial reasons to use that discretion.

 

Vaccines are different. They prevent disease. I don't know a single doctor who prescribes vaccines for personal gains.

 

Can you tell me which vaccine you don't want your children to have?
