May 21, 201313 yr I am not the one with the daily complaint about the line up and never a suggestion for what the lineup should be. It is a pet peeve of mine for complainers in general, not just here. My rule - if you have a complaint, you have to offer a better solution/option. You don't get the easy way out of complaining, acting like you are smarter or the other guy is stupid and then never having to come up with your own plan. But, to answer your question, I would move the catchers to the 2 hole. They both bat right handed so you keep the left, right, left thing going; they both have OBP as good as any of the other options; Hanigan is a good contact guy and can move runners and Mesoraco would benefit from batting in front of Votto. Move the SS to 8 in the order and they will be easier to bunt over if they get on base. The suggestion was made by Keith Law a while back and that is Votto should hit 2nd. BP 3rd and Bruce 4th. If Votto would get 15 or more plate appearances extra a year and Cozart would get 20 less or so it really makes no sense to not do it. Additionally if the 3 hitter leads off less innings than any other hitter in the lineup and Votto is the best OBP guy in the NL it makes even more sense.

The key point I am making is you pack all your punch into 4 hitters, then a pitcher is on cruise control for the other 5 hitters. Having a lineup without depth is a lot of pressure off a starter.

May 21, 201313 yr How the world do you pitch around 4 straight guys? I get what you're saying but you are only guaranteed they would be the 1-4 hitters in the 1st inning. Still would be a good lineup. I'd put my pitcher in the two hole and let him bunt Choo over twice a game. Not really, but someone better than Cozart. Bottom line, if Choo, Votto, Phillips and Bruce keep hitting it doesn't matter who hits second. They will score enough to win. Additionally, Frazier needs to figure it out.
