Abercrombie & Fitch CEO explains why they don't offer women's XL or XXL sizes

Featured Replies

Absolutely. Not to mention walking by their store in the mall makes me what to puke from the smell. Not sure what they spray in there but it is god awful.

There is something that is "off" about it, that's for sure.

I am not sure spandex should be offered in plus sizes either.

While I am not surprised at all that they don't want the "non beautiful" wearing their clothes, I cannot believe they came right out and said it. I thought they would spin it some other way.

I have always felt the fashion/clothing industry was very shallow.

Ballsy. If they wany to limit their consumers that's on them. Not a great business plan in most situations but if it works...

Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Explains Why He Hates Fat Chicks

WORLDSEAN LEVINSON • MAY 3, 12:14PM

Lewis said that the only reason Abercrombie offers XL and XXL in men’s sizes is to appeal to large athletes.

In a 2006 interview with Salon, Jeffries confirmed that the communication between hot people is his primary marketing tactic.

That must be why their clothes fit me perfectly :sssh:

I am not surprised they don't offer the large sizes, but I am surprised that the CEO would come out and say it the way it is portrayed.

However, maybe, the message that should be received is that being overweight is unhealthy and unattractive and in most cases controllable.

The dude looks like Gary Busey and Eric Stolz's character from the movie Mask had a love child.

People who have an issue with this have issues themselves. It's one store that doesn't offer your size. Get over it. Victoria's secret doesn't offer anything to men, maybe I should go cry myself to sleep because I'm not able to wear Victoria's Secret. I guess could get a sex change and wear it. LFO likes girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch, not Walmart XXL stretch jeans.

If he said BLACK instead of FAT would everyone be as forgiving?

As a former fatty I was one of the people that shared that link on my Facebook page. I don't own a single piece of A&F clothing and I never will.

Exactly! Ah it's OK, we all (Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians or even American Indians) can come together to bag on the fatties!!!

It is very arrogant of the company to have that position. If you don't want to make larger sizes then don't make them, problem solved. But to say that was callous and stupid. I'm a Big guy and I know where I can and can not find clothes. There are many stores and labels that do not carry plus size in men's or women's sizes, that's fine, that is their choice. But the remarks by this dirt bag are just plain stupid and insensitive, but that's OK he just talking about fatties. We all like to make fun of them any way.

This. I don't have an issue if he chooses not to sell clothes in plus sizes. Do a quick GOOGLE and see some of the other things he has said. He's an arrogant jerk and that's my issue with him.

“Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely.

I guess this is what the Attractive All-American Kid looks like when they grow old...Question:Is this person allowed to wear AF, he surely doesn't represent their brand image.

Can black people change their skin color? I'm not saying all overweight people can change their weight. Some people have thyroid issues, and different genetic issues that prevent them from being skinny. Black people can't be white people unless their Michael Jackson or Sammy Sosa. Apples and oranges...If you don't want to wear Abercrombia and Fitch, this guy is clearly saying he couldn't care less. If you want to hold a grudge, that's your own problem. No one is forcing you to buy their clothing and no one cares if you never will. I won't buy it either because I don't like it. Not because they don't like fat people wearing their clothes.

So they offer the larger sizes for men to appeal to athletes....but judging from the people I see in the mall, they don't refuse to sell the items to out of shape big men/boys.

Pig.
