I will have Derrick Rose's back through and through on this one. The people with the most comments (not necessarily on here but the radio) have never had an injury like this. It's not easy physically and certainly not easily mentally to come back from it. You want to ease into coming back from this type of injury, not come back to play the Miami Heat in the playoffs. Now, I know you'll say he could have eased into it throughout March and April, but I will still get DRose's back on this.

It wasn't all that long ago that people would sit out for a year, no questions asked, with a torn ACL. Sometimes you have to think long term and I think its a good decision for Rose to keep sitting until he's fully ready to play.

It makes me appreciate and respect Adrian Peterson even more.

I have an amazing respect for what AP was able to do. It really was miraculous, but he was the exception, certainly not the rule. He only completely changed the expectation for an ACL injury.

So did Wes Welker and plenty of others. Technology has changed the game concerning all injuries. Especially ACL injuries. I know a kid who tore his ACL his senior year of high school in the first week of basketball practice in October. Missed his senior year of basketball but was back playing baseball by May and back to pitching by July I believe. He's in his second year of D-1 baseball for Xavier. I'm hearing about more exceptions to the rule than ever before. How is ACL surgery recovery and rehab better in Danville, Ky than Chicago? Maybe he should have came down here to get right. 8-10 months recovery seems to be more of the rule than 1 year nowadays.

If the Bulls somehow won the title, should Rose get a ring? If you were a player and voted against it, you could say it is a mental thing. Mentally, you didn't feel like he earned it.

And I understand why you have his back and I expect you to.

I'm never mentally ready to work either but I still end up here every day...

He is still part of the team and he is on the bench as well. It would be disrespectful for him to not get a ring.

For those BGP athletes/former athletes that have had torn ACLs how long was your recovery time and when did you tear it?

Do you have Rose's back on this? Should he sit until he can confidently play with worry? Can he ever play without worry?

I have two horrible shoulders that can pop out at any time. Been doing that since I was 16. I'll pop it back in, they'll be numb and useless for about 5 minutes and then all is well again. They need surgery but I am not a pro athlete and I know my limitations. They haven't popped out in quite some time. That being said, I still play basketball and softball and you have to drag me off the field. I'm going to play. Period. Even though I know my shoulder can pop out at any time I am still going to play. It's not my knee but the day the doctor would have cleared me I'd have been back on the court. I hate losing. I despise losing. I despise watching my teams lose. I'm going down with my team. One arm or no arms. I'm with my team. That is my mentality. I can't have DRose's back when I know for a fact I'd have came back in March.

I know that is the way it is always done. Anyone associated with the team gets their ring. If the players are ok with Rose being the suited cheerleader on the bench, who are we to question it? They see him in practice and should know if he is ready and what effort he is making. Plus, if they somehow won it, there would be plenty of joy and no bitterness so I am sure this would never happen.

But, I'm just sayin' ... if you feel the guy isn't giving effort ... no ring, it's a mental thing.

And I understand why you have his back and I expect you to.

He seems soft to me if not physical than mentally. As an athlete you push to play. If he was in college and didnt have a that check in hand I bet he would mentally feel better. I agree its a hurdle the Getting back into the mindset with an injury but it is one you attack! To me he either has not pushed it in rehab, out of shape, or just soft. But who knows. I see having his back but deep inside that has to be because you just dont believe someone could be this much of WUSS!!!

I just think he's soft. He can't give any effort if he isn't on the court. I think he needs to suck it up and get back on the court but I don't think he shouldn't get a ring just because he's soft.

Totally agree. It's a lot easier to "ease" back onto the court when you are getting 16 million whether you suit up or not.

Until the last 4-5 years an ACL tear was a 12-16 month recovery for professional athletes, and most admit it takes a full season before they are back to 100%. Some guys like AP are genetic freaks so it is grossly unfair to compare his situation to Rose's situation. At some point we are going to push the body so much it will be counterproductive. Do not forget either that many attribute his ACL injury last season to coming back to soon from other ailments he was having. I have never questioned Rose's commitment or toughness. The dude has taken a pounding going in recklessly time and again driving the ball. In fairness Rose with #TheReturn stuff and his brother have created a lot of the hysteria.

I think it's an extremely smart decision by Rose. He's looking at the long-term, which is what a smart person would do in his situation.

Sure he's been cleared to play, but if he doesn't feel he's physically at the level he was before the injury yet, it'd be dumb to try to come back.

If he's well enough to have been playing 5 on 5 in practice for two months, he's well enough to play. If not, then he needs to stop practicing, and stop running fives until he is "mentally ready" to play.
