I think a lot of the reaction to this is because many feel that LeBron was unjustly punished relentlessly for "The Decision" and people have gone back to being overprotective of LeBron.

If that was the case then that is fine but it is not "best player in league". It is an award to gauge value to one's team. He even said if it was a vote for LeBron he would have voted for him easily.

You can't take reactions or voice inflections from text, but it comes off (in print) like he was shocked anyone would cast a vote for someone else.

That's because you take most valuable player and best player to mean the same thing. They don't.

If Tony Parker doesn't get hurt, he could have even received some votes, as well as Melo in my opinion.
