May 1, 201313 yr BURKESVILLE, Ky. (AP) - An autopsy is planned Wednesday for a toddler who authorities say was accidentally shot and killed by her 5-year-old brother as he played with a rifle he received as a gift. Kentucky State Police said the 2-year-old girl was shot just after 1 p.m. CDT Tuesday in Cumberland County and was taken to Cumberland County Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. White said the boy received the rifle made for youths last year and is used to shooting it. He said the gun was kept in a corner and the family didn't realize a shell was left inside it. May 1, 201313 yr I've defended the 2nd amendment and will continue to do so. That said what moronic idiot gives their 5 year old a gun? Both of those parents need to be charged with negligent homicide and endangering a minor.
May 1, 201313 yr Author Am I the only one who thinks a 5 year old has no business owning a gun? I understand and agree with teaching young children how to use guns but it has to be in the safest of manners and that certainly doesn't include leaving the gun sitting out.
May 1, 201313 yr I had a gun that was "My Gun" when I was about that age. It stayed in a gun rack out of my reach and I never even thought of touching it or getting it down for fear of the repercussions on the back side of my body. This is first and foremost a tragedy. Anything else that comes out of this will just exacerbate the pain and suffering of this family and this young boy. I have no problem with charges being filed against the mother/father, but that's kinda like closing the barn door after the cows get out.

May 1, 201313 yr I agree with just about everything said above. Why was the kid able to access the gun at any time without the parents around? And in a corner? And the parents didn't know that a shell was left inside the gun? They need to be charged! Yes, they are all suffering now, BUT they are alive! I feel the same about people who leave babies in the car in the heat. People say stuff like "Oh, they are feeling bad enough with the death of their baby why make it worse on them?" I don't buy that garbage, if you are negligent, you pay the price!
May 1, 201313 yr Why charge them now. No amount of jail time is = to losing their 2yr old. It was a horrible accident and parental neglect on their part. Parental neglect happens every day.

May 1, 201313 yr I must be a moron then. My son got his first gun when he was 5. A cricket .22 rifle. I never kept it in a corner. I never had it out of the safe unless he and I were together headed to the range. this one is on the parents, no doubt.
