In all seriousness though, who couldn't love the Mayor?
He's slow as LRCW down the line but busted his rear like he was gonna beat out a groundball to short every time.

In no particular order...

Scott Scudder

Jack Armstrong

Nick Esasky

Dick Wagner

Tracy Jones

And yes, I know Wagner wasn't a player...but probably half of the players he traded for, I hated...just because of who he let go in the process.

Glad to see somebody else on here remembers how bad Scudder was.

He hit above 270 all his seasons with the Reds except one year. Never struck out more than 100 times. Stole at least 30 bases during his tenure except his last year. Was an excellent fielder. Plus he gave everything he had. He was a pretty good player, not great, but not the scrub you make him out to be.

He was an odd guy, but nothing to hate about him. He's one of my favorites I've watched.

So he was very very very average, yet if you go to Reds games today, 5 years later you STILL see Ryan Freel shirts. Like I said, I didn't hate him but he is the most undeserving popular player in Reds history.

According to baseball-reference, most similar players to Ryan Freel, Top 10:

  1. Rich Amaral (952)
  2. Rajai Davis (950)
  3. Harry Wolter (950)
  4. Nyjer Morgan (950)
  5. Bernie Neis (949)
  6. Jerome Walton (947)
  7. Josh Devore (944)
  8. Dave Gallagher (940)
  9. Alex Cole (939)
  10. Kiddo Davis (938

Yeah Edwin Encarnacion is still terrible, haha.

It's not his fault the Reds couldn't see he wasn't a 3B.

Now that I have thought about it, here are some more:

Jeff Branson

Dave Burba

Gookie Dawkins

Elmer Dessens

Willie Greene
