How old is he? I've heard he was held back once or twice, is that true?

Actually 3 time holdback, was spotted driving his Team to a 6th grade TarHeels game. LOL

I can't believe with all the talent in NKY, Hatton is the only kid to make the SR/JR all star team.

Not shocked at all. The talent level across the state for the junior class is loaded. I witnessed the tryouts and he was the only NKY that was close to making the team. I've said years ago how talented the 2014 class was. Lots of folks would have broken hearts thinking about how good their team was going to be, not realizing a lot of teams would be even better.

Side note, I think Tony Campbell, the lone NKY Sr. Invited, would have made the Sr. Team had he made the tryouts.

My son just turned 18 last week and I know Brandon is about 6-7 weeks younger so he will be 18 soon but not yet. Either way, he is legal to play through his high school years so no big deal.

A year of Maturity makes a big difference at the high-school age, and in sports. However many kids that are not even half as good a Hatton are the same age and graduate a year later so why is it a big deal when it comes to Hatton? Lets face it Hatton is the most consistent scorer in the 9th region and in the state and seems to do it effortlessly. He can score when he want and how he wants. That's the reason why he was face with Multiple double teams this year. Regardless of age the kid can play. When he was in the 10th grade and there was kids his age in the 11th and 12th grade that could not stop. It didn't seem to be as much noise.

Great post but I think Hatton has faced plenty of doubters since he was in the 8th grade and leading Dixie in scoring.

The whole holdback issue is the norm now...a lot if athletes these days are holdbacks.

 

In nky alone, you have Hatton, Bolden, Schuh, and I believe McDonald at Newcath is older. Could be wrong on the last one.

I believe AAU went to the grade rule last year and the 3 exceptions is no longer. But, that rule was always only for high school or lower ages anyway.

Brandon is a 1 year hold back. He is 18 and that 6th grade AAU team that was referred to also had holdbacks Q. Snider (Ballard) and Z. McCormick (Turpin) and at that time AAU allowed for 3 age exceptions per team. The rule has since change to have an unlimited amount of exceptions but the play must be in the grade for which his team is competing and he can only be 1 year older but the specified date by the AAU. This is common, non issue.
