You sure of these things before you throw them out there?

 

Walter, I do not know where you are hearing things or where you are getting your information, but my son Bo Schuh was never held back. Bo is an honor student who takes advanved placement courses and scored a 28 on the ACT at the end of his freshman year. He was born mid July 1996. Due to being born mid July, his mother and I had a choice on which yerar to start him in school and we are very happy with our decision. Being the fact that he was 4-5 years old at the time, it had absolutely nothing to do with athletics. He has played AAU with McDonald and both Moeves boys and I do not believe them to be holdbacks either but maybe I am wrong.

 

The statement you made about St. Agnes parents is ridiculous. I have had 3 children go through St. Agnes and I do not know of one child in any of their grades who went to kindergarten at Ft. Wright and then was held back and enrolled in kindregarten at St. Agnes the following year.

 

I apprecaite what you do for No. KY sports and you seem to be a reasonable person who posts accurate information but you could not be any farther off this post. Whoever gave you this information either has an agenda or is clueless, probably a little of both.

As far as my statement about Bo and the other two, I stated they were "a year older/holdbacks" because I didn't know whether they were held back or just older due to the birthday and start date of school. Just wanted to clarify that.

 

As far as the St Agnes comment, I was speaking in general...not just athletes...again which is why I said "from what I heard" so people know I'm not stating it as fact.

 

Apologize again for the confusion and look forward to seeing Bo play again this year. Interviewed him several times this year and he is indeed a good kid so his academic accomplishments do not surprise me.

I as well am confused by the "choice" for being born in July ? If you are born before October you are suppose to be in one grade? I never heard of the choice .

I'm confused then so based on being born in July of 96 that means he will be 17 before he starts Junior year correct ? That is a year behind .

Just to clear things up...the only reason I brought up Schuh and the Moeves boys was to show that Hatton isn't the only one who is an older kid for their grade.

 

The term holdback can be misinterpreted at times because it implies there could be an academic issue which isn't the case with any kid being mentioned in this thread.

 

As far as the Moeves boys goes, I've heard they "repeated" 6th grade due to some issues that kept them out of school for a while. I believe they also started school late due to their birthdays. If someone has more information, feel free to join in.

 

Again, being older for your grade is the norm today. Markel McClendon is older for his grade as well.

Based off Mr Schuh's post, I believe you are correct. I think he was just saying Bo was never held back. See my previous post as to why my post may have been taken the wrong way.

It was common 12-15 years ago when I was in high school . It isn't that new . Parents should do what they feel is best for their child . I have no problem with it.

Bo sounds like a heck of a student (which is the most important thing anyway) but by age I think he would be considered a year behind. Anytime you are going to be 18 before your senior year in high school starts I think you have to be considered a year behind. Thoughts?

I think so. All I know is I started and finished on time.
