KY AAU Teams 2013

Featured Replies

This question I'm directing toward Walter because I feel like he would be the one most likely with the answer, but does anyone know if any of the Holmes Varsity roster is playing AAU anywhere other than Bolden?

I know a majority this past year were seniors, but thought that Chames and maybe Housely would be playing summer ball somewhere.

Herndon and Housely are playing for The Family 2 out of Cincy.

Not sure who the team is, but Hill and Chames are playing for the same AAU team as well. I assume another Cincy team.

In Kentucky there has been Darius Miller, Rajon Rondo and who else become NBA players from Kentucky in the 21st century? It is fair to say that the majority in Kentucky don't know NBA athletic cause don't see it on the regular basis. Dixson is not NBA Athletic, he wouldn't dominate a NAIA game right now.

Actually, I think he could start for the Heat right now. And he's probably better than Durant as of today. Seriously? Come on guys. Re-read what I said. I stated what a freshman said about his athleticism. He was saying that to point out that he's special athletically speaking, not that he's literally as athletic as MJ. Get the point? That is not synonymous with saying he's a future NBA player. Also, I've seen plenty of national (not KY) AAU talent. Guess what? He's still athletic, even there.

Elijah Pittman will likely be the next one...he has gotten a lot of attention from NBA scouts since landing in Marshall. Special set of skills and athleticism to go with his 6'9 230 lb frame.

Marcus Hill is also now playing for this team with Housely and Herndon. Still trying to find out who Chames and Rod Avery are playing for.

I've seen him play and he has very good athletic ability compared to the state, he doesn't have elite d-1 athletic ability let alone world class NBA athletic ability.

Havent seen Pittman on any mock drafts yet but have heard his name. Have seen Tyler Brown (former Apollo star) on a few mock draft in the early to mid 2nd round.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I watched him again today. I've seen several major D1 kids play at big summer tournaments over the past few years and, again talking only about athleticism, he is right there. NBA? I think it' would be a stretch to truly compare any high school sophomore to NBA athletes. But....that's not (literally) what was being said in the first place.

I have a very hard time believing Pittman ends up in the NBA. I've watched Marshall a dozen times this season.

OJ Mayo was NBA athletic. Bill Walker was NBA athletic. Dixson isn't there right now. I hope he gets that because what fun it will be watching him. I hope he dedicates himself to the game. I hope he puts in the work in the weightroom because he has some very significant tools. And with all due respect, I've watched AAU at the highest level for several consecutive summers.
Dixon plays for Blazer. Transferred from Huntington last year. I agree with what was said - he could use extra weight and could stand to improve his jump shot. Regarding ball handling, he plays a 3 so that's probably adequate already, though any player could benefit from improving in that area. All of that said, he's a legit 6'6" to 6'7." And very long. Even with room for improvement in those areas, he already stands out in a gym full of quality athletes and players from 15U - 17U. Will's comment was that he is "NBA athletic." If he works, and he's with the right guy (Mike Scott) to do that, his ceiling is as high as anyone I've seen in the state in any grade. And as was said he does appear to have a good attitude as well, which is a key.

And Will plays for the 15U team, but Dixon plays for the 16 U team. The two teams scrimmage regularly and it's a battle. Hopefully the Magic 16U and HOop Dreams 16U meet up along the way (at least at state). Should be a good one.

thanks for the info about Dixon. Do u have the roster for hoop dreams 16u?? Where do you all hold practice at?? Are you practicing this week during spring break. If so I'd really like to come and check out the teams. I've always heard Mike Scott knows his stuff, interested to see how he runs practices. I'd also like to watch will compete against great talent. Your boy is one heck of a ballplayer
None of it really matters. All that matters is that you play in front of alot of coaches. NCAA certified events. If you're not in those, you are fighting an uphill battle.

I absolutely understand and respect your point. However, if by "it" you mean which player plays on which team, I humbly suggest that "it" does really matter for at least two reasons:

1. Regardless of how many sanctioned tournaments a team plays, if a player doesn't see much of the floor then it is, as you aptly put it, an uphill battle. Sure, the true elite squads and their players are on everyone's radar, but many mid-pack AAU teams only attend one or two exposure events per season. For every Bolden, Hatton, or Hawkins there's a kid towards the center of the bench at the [fill in the name] Classic, looking wistfully at the coach from Kentucky State or Sinclair.

2. I work with college students on a daily basis and many of them are still struggling with their big-picture skills, both academically and vocationally. Most high school students have developed even fewer critical thinking chops; it's perfectly likely that a fifteen-year-old baller's ego would keep him on a low-exposure team without consideration of the long-term consequences, just so he can feel like a star.

Again, this is not a comment about Green or the KY Players or any other particular player or team. Just an observation on basketball and human nature.

Pittman has another year left so I believe everyone is referring to after his senior season so you won't see him on any mock draft boards.

Unfortunately, I don't know some of the kids and dont have a roster. Couple of really good ones (that I do know names) are Dixon and Jeremiah Tisdale from Henry Clay. Let me just go ahead and say that neither are very athletic LOL??. We practice in Lexington but won't be at all over sting break.
