theguru
Among the key findings: 77 percent of those surveyed believe values and morals in the United States are declining. One-third of them say its because Americans don't read the Bible enough. The survey also revealed a gap between beliefs and actions. For instance, 66 percent say they believe the Bible has everything a person needs to live a meaningful life. But 58 percent say they don't want the wisdom and advice the Bible has to offer. Meanwhile, 57 percent say they read the Scripture fewer than five times a year. Is The Bible Losing Its Influence in America? | CBN.com

Getslow
I read another study recently that studied cultural measuring sticks and that for the first time, a majority of incoming collegiate freshman don't know the biblical origins of the phrases "forbidden fruit," "Good Samaritan," "Promised Land," and "writing on the wall." Yeah, it's definitely losing influence.

The rest, I believe I knew the root of by the time I was 5 or 6.

Plus ACLU scaring the ---- out of people threating to sue if God is mentioned. Our military is even being forced to exclude religion in cases. But all praise might Mohammed and allow everyone to worship that false religion.
jolmstead
Absolutely the bible is becoming less influential as a standard of moral behavior. However, the root cause does not originate in the secular world but rather the church itself. Specifically, the evangelical protestant church. The mission of the church is to lead people to Christ, to disciple and nurture them into leaders, and to hold CHRISTIAN congregations and individuals accountable to biblical principals. The evangelical church strayed from this mission when it decided to allow itself to be used for the secular political process and the consequences have been horrific. Church attendance is down across the board and public perception of the evangelical church has never been lower. There is nothing about participation in the secular political process that advances the Kingdom of Christ. No one is lead to him. No one is matured in faith. This whole process only serves as an attempt to apply principals of christian accountability to those who have not accepted Christ. The Church needs to spend God's resources by reflecting the image of Christ, both as individuals and as congregations. George W. Bush is the poster boy for this process. Evangelicals knew when they supported him that his Vice President was a supporter of the gay agenda. Now, 10 years we find out the W himself also supports the gay agenda. Evangelicals were so bold as to support their candidacy from their pulpits. How can the evangelical church be taken seriously ever again?

I thought Evangelicals were one of the few sects over the past few decades that saw growth? I know mainline Protestant churches are shrinking. Catholicism is having some growth but that is being slowed due to many liberal Catholics leaving the Church due to the "counter reaction" from Vatican Council II. jericho
So you're saying the Bible is less influence on you today than it used to? As I get older it has more influence over me. I tend to be more outspoken on this issue when I see the freedoms Christians had are gone. Like the teacher who wanted the class to stomp on the name Jesus, what kind of bombing would we have had if we had to,stomp on Mohammed or drama picture of him.
