Yeah, I gotta go with the NCC side on this one .... no way they fall under the "recruiting" umbrella. Quite to the contrary, in fact... more than any other school I can think of, NCC keeps its teams stocked almost exclusively with "legacies". In fact, as I sit here, I am trying to remember the last major player at NCC that wasn't the son or a nephew of a prior Bred. Ben Weyer might be the first in a long, long time, and, as was mentioned above, he comes from a strong Catholic family and his grandfather coached for many years at Thomas More. No way his winding up at NCC would ever qualify as being "recruited" in my book. My point being, NCC is as far from a recruiting school as it can be.... its probably THE MOST DIFFICULT school to come into as an outsider....

Ben Weyer's Grandfather Mr. Weyer was a graduate of NewCath and won a state baseball championship so Ben does have some ties to NewCath.

Starring, you've got to be kidding, as I recall he was a roll player in the Allen Schaffer era, maybe the reason he left. I believe he was a role player at NCC also.

Can someone give some broad averages of the difference in what a Private school coach makes versus a public school coach makes. I understand the state retirement end of it but some please provide ball park figures on salaries. Also, are Catholic school coaching salaries determined solely by the school or does the Diocese of Covington have a say also? Cov Cath, New Cath, Holy Cross, St Henry all have to answer to the Bishop I hear.

I heard this was in the range of a $20k a yr pay raise but cant confirm.

All public schools have their salary schedules posted on their district websites.

When I coached high school baseball (freshman) at a private school I made 1/4th of what a public middle school basketball coach makes. Now with that being said its pennies on the hour for the time that these coaches are putting in, on both sides. I don't blame Grant for taking the Walton job. More money obviously was a big key but there were some other perks that made it to sweet to pass up. Good luck to Grant and his family.

I think Waa Waa is more appropriate with all the crying you do. From what I hear you can just follow a few of the current NCC Players as they drive south on I75 to go to school at WV each day.

 

And as long as he performs up to the standard of excellence expected at WV he will have a long and prosperous career. Based on his past performance the WV faithful have gotten a good one. Try not to be so jealous Waa Waa, it is unbecoming.

No, not always. It's a matter of available space. If there is available space for a student, they MAY be admitted. That is up to the discretion of the administration/board.

His grandfather was an outstanding basketball and baseball player at NewCath in the early '50s.
