I think NKU, and President Mearns, seems to be handling everything brilliantly. But I can say in encountering him a few times while doing some work at the BOKC over the past 5 years, the vibe I got about him was not positive. To me he came off as arrogant, shady, and self-serving. This news is stunning, but there was something about him that rubbed me the wrong way.

Don't get your honey where you make your money and double sign off of ebery expenditure because misappropriating finances will get you fired faster than anything. Three things usually can get people fired, blatant insubordination, immoral conduct, and incompetence. The first two really are not hard to prove the last is extremely difficult.

April 25, 201313 yr All you gotta do is look in the guy's backyard in Ft. Thomas to see he had to be doing something shady. He has a full court basketball court with like 3 huge college style backboard/hoops. It almost looks like he is storing basketball equipment back there and now it makes more sense. Pull into Marathon gas station one time and you will see what I am talking about as you can see his backyard from where you put air in your tires. I guess those bad boys will soon be on Ebay as he will be liquidating a lot of stuff trying to pay back the money.

Just did a quick Google search: Former NKU AD Eaton to get 10-year sentence Former Northern Kentucky University Athletic Director Scott Eaton will accept a sentence of 10 years Friday when he pleads guilty to theft charges in Campbell County. The story is still completely crazy to me.

Aside from the fact the guy must never sleep with all his "side" actions I still can't believe that no one monitored any of the credit card use close enough to realize anything was going on. This isn't some Mom and Pop business......it is a freaking University that charges you a fee to pay tuition by a credit card.

And can someone explain to me how you spend $260k in Kroger gift cards in six years. Do these cards have street value, trade for drugs, given to the mistresses?

My guess is he spent the money on his mistresses and the 5 basketball goals that are behind his house. Drives a modest car and lives in a modest house so who knows. When can he get out? Parole?

I heard he would be eligible for parole in two years.
April 21, 201412 yr I did not follow this at all as it was happening. I only read this thread once I heard the news about the 10 year sentence on the news the other day. All I can say is Wow. I actually feel bad for him,not because of what he did but how I think he defiantly needs professional help and put his family through all of this. I hope he gets the help he needs and comes out of prison a better man.

After serving 20%, he will be eligible. That will also include any credit for work performed while there, so probably around 22 -23 months total.
