What is wrong with it, you ask? I can't say it's wrong, but on some level it just bothers me when we disclose that coaches have applied elsewhere. We ask kids to believe and buy into their coaches and I think it hurts the chances of that happening when we post these types of threads and the coach doesn't get the job(s) he applied for and stays. I honestly think it hurts a coach's ability to lead when his players read that he applied for several jobs and in all likelihood would have left if he'd have gotten the job.

 

Yeah, I can appreciate the likely response from some that he shouldn't have applied then. But you can't lay that on a coach and then say there is nothing wrong with a coach seeing if there is a better fit for him and his family.

 

Adults generally understand a coach trying to better his/his family's situation; teenagers often do not. They see a coach that applied to coach somewhere else as disloyal and not being committed to them at the same time he is asking them to be committed to him and his program.

 

It's the Ru's site and he is obviously free to do what he wants, but as much as I love him, I don't agree with these types of threads any more than I agree with threads involving injuries to players; newsworthy or not.

 

Other than satiating our curiosity, what good comes out of these types of threads? Maybe there is something, but I honestly don't know what it would be.

Coach Wirth has every right to test the waters at other institutions. There may be financial opportunities or retirement perks available outside Park Hills that Cov. Cath. simply cannot match. In my opinion nearly everyone would support the efficacy of Coach taking whatever steps he deems necessary to provide for his family.

 

What I think some may take issue with is the matter morphing into "the Park Hills mafia is chasing him out". Coach Wirth enjoys very solid support. Colonel Nation would be very disappointed to see him go but would understand....(see Rodenberg, John).

 

 

 

Not all were disappointed when Rodenberg left. Some might even have done cartwheels!!

 

As for Coach Wirth, I hope he stays. I think he's a fine coach and a good guy. Also, I have heard he is a good teacher and let's not forget about that. Good teachers are not just a dime a dozen. If he decides to move on for football reasons or an in school reason, so be it. If the decison to move on is based on finances, I would question why he came in the first place. He hasn't been there that long.

Situations change, people change, opportunities come and go.

It would be foolish not to look at other opportunities when they arise.

Most of us have probably changed jobs, searching for a new position BEFORE

giving notice that we are leaving our current job.

Most have probably looked into a change, then decided to stay where we were.

We did that without being raked over the coals on a gossip blog.

As some of you may or may not remember Lynn Ray could of had the Ryle job and a number of college jobs. Coach Wirth will make the best decision not only for his family but for the Covington Catholic football program. He has strong ties to the community now and his wife is a NDA alum. I believe he feels there is some unfinished business in Park Hills and will remain there until he can consistently win a state championship and beat HHS.

Consistently would be every other year or every third year to beat HHS. I am not naive enough to think they could beat them for a 4 or 5 year period. Being able to do that will go hand in hand with winning a state championship. We all know that the best team in 4A will more than likely be the favorite for the state title.
