January 28, 201313 yr Final. Was the effort better than last year? Did the players do enough to save this game?
January 28, 201313 yr All I know is that I didn't watch it and didn't care to. The game really doesn't have much meaning to me because none of the players from our Super Bowl contenders even play. Its a glorified 7-on-7 flag football game.
January 28, 201313 yr Author A.J. Green had a big game. 7 catches for 119 yards and 3 TDs. The rest of the Bengals were non-factors.
January 28, 201313 yr Had no clue the Pro Bowl even happened today. Still seeing tons of people being replaced or not wanting to play. Hopefully they cancel the Pro Bowl.
January 28, 201313 yr A.J. Green had a big game. 7 catches for 119 yards and 3 TDs. The rest of the Bengals were non-factors. Geno Atkins played pretty good with a sack. What I found funny is through the entire game the announcers kept talking about how much better this game was than last years. How the players were actually playing hard etc. How can you say players are actually playing hard when 97 points are scored in a game and when the 62 points put up by the NFC is a record for most points put up by a team in the pro bowl. They kept trying to polish a turd and I wasn't buying it.
January 28, 201313 yr It is very tough to have a football all star game in the NFL because of the injury factor being much higher than other sports. Still, I was ok with what I saw and I hope they continue it. Everyone just needs to understand it is more of a skills competition than a hard nose battle.
January 28, 201313 yr It is funny because no person enjoys or watches it yet it pummels other all-star games and other pro sport championship games in terms of viewership. I know there is a gambling side to it (more bet on the Pro Bowl than the Celtics/Heat and Lakers/Thunder game combined), but I can't imagine that is the bulk of the viewership. People just love football. The coolest part of the game was Jeff Saturday switched teams for one play so that he could snap the ball to Manning one before time. Saturday is retiring and I believe that ended up being his last career play.
January 28, 201313 yr Didn't watch the game at all. Heard an interesting stat on Mike & Mike this morning. The Pro Bowl averaged 12.5 million viewers last year. The World Series averaged 12.7.
January 28, 201313 yr TV viewers will still flock to the Pro Bowl, but only because it's football; and need a football fix. While the Saturday play was a nice feel-good story, it serves to point out just what a mockery of "the real game" the Pro Bowl is.
January 28, 201313 yr Author I'm mixed about it. I enjoyed the offensive show, but I think defenses stop playing around halftime. It is kind of ridiculous that nobody on either line moves on an extra point. Toward the end of the game, I've never seen so many "stand-up" tackles. I'm ok with it as long as I remember what it is. The views of Hawaii are nice (including cheerleaders). Hearing some of the plays being called in the huddle is cool. I do wish the game mattered more, but don't see how it can be made like the baseball All-Star game.
January 28, 201313 yr Darn! Missed it again. That makes 54 in row I haven't seen. So what made you change your mind once you hit age 16?
January 28, 201313 yr I was stationed in Hawaii for 3.5 years and had the opportunity to see three of these games. The only reason in my estimation to keep this going is for NFL fans in Hawaii to have the opportunity to see the game up close, but that is the only reason.
January 28, 201313 yr I don't see what the problem is with the game, as long as you see it for what it is, which is definitely not a "real" football game. With high school and college ball being done (well, perhaps there is one more senior bowl-type college game for college seniors to try to prove their skills to scouts... I'm not sure), the NFL Pro Bowl is the second to last football game (with only the Super Bowl remaining) until the summer, so it makes sense that a lot of football fans are going to watch it. It's a long time before the preseason games start! I do like the fact that the NFL has moved this game to the weekend before the Super Bowl. I realize the players from Super Bowl teams cannot participate, but I think it's only proper that the Super Bowl be the LAST pro football game of the season.
