No I am helping my son make his dreams come true! He has been to more football camps than some highschool kids. This ishis second seas on of football and he has gained over 20 pounds and 6 inches since last football season. He has one major goal and that is to play college football for UK, UC or Penn State and he is very focused!

And my son dreams of playing for the Florida Gators. Certainly would not be on here talking about how great he played in yesterday's 3/4 game. I understand what you are saying about keeping dreams come true, but not at the expense of dad or anyone else placing unrealistic expectations on him at the age of 8 or 9 years old.

The Fort Thomas Youth Program is nothing like the NKYFL. There are not 40+ kids on a team where about 18 play and the emphasis is not on winning or losing, but keeping kids playing the game. Scores and results of those games mean absolutely nothing and you will not see HHS parents on here gloating about how the 3/4 green team spanked the 3/4 gold team last week. Much much different animal IMO and I have seen both in action.

You are misinformed! South Kenton starters has 42 kids and everybody plays!

What is their format? Do they give a 1st team of players(older) 1st Qtr. and then give 2nd teamers(younger) the 2nd Qtr? Or is it a split field type situation? Just curious!

Usually spilt field regardless everybody plays no matter what.

Interesting!

For the most part you won't but I read some Facebook posts from some Dad's giving us scores and stats for their kids FTJRFL games. Lol

Trust me they are everywhere.

Only thing I will say to UK.#1 is do not push your son only guide him and give him opportunities to grow as an athlete. You would be surprised how much they change from youth league to Varsity sports. Who knows he may not even want to play the sport at the frosh level. Then what? That is what you may want to prepare yourself for patna.

Baby Birds will be fine. Turnovers are killer and part of the game, someone posted on FB they had 5 fumbles. Is this true?

Sounds like the future of Highlands football is not going to be good! :D

The 2007 HHS Freshman football team had the opportunity to play SK twice at their place, and lost both games to a really good football team. Following the second game, which was for the NKY freshman championship that year, Coach Mueller talked to the birds on the field. His first comment was to tell the team what they already knew, that they had lost to a very good freshman football team. Then he said something I will never forget; "you guys are going to have the opportunity to do some great things in the coming years as Highlands football players." And he was right. The players who played all four years got to prepare for and play in 60 football games throughout their career, and were the first class at Highlands to earn 4 state championship rings. I know you were trying to be sarcastic or funny, or maybe even just spiteful, but you couldn't possibly be more wrong in your assessment. Congratulations to SK on the big win. Let's plan to get back together in three and a half years and look at the whole picture.

Some of you are missing the point. The point is not about how the two youth leagues are structured or who wins or looses. The point is, someone said youth football does not matter. I said it does matter and the Highlands fans ofter say that it does matter and is responsible for Highlands High School success. You can't say it matters when you are winning and it doesn't matter when you lose.

Typical deflection tactic when faced with an un-winnable argument.

It is part of winning and being a SUPER POWER!!:thumb: There are a lot more factors but that is a big one..

That's all I was saying, one Highlands fan said youth sports don't matter, I disagree.

I didn't see that anywhere except in talking scores which most on here would agree with.

You didn't see Highlands getting shut out by SK either! :D

I said it and I firmly believe it. Kids develop at all kinds of levels in youth sports. Some kids look like stars when they are younger/bigger than the competition and then when things are even they are not nearly as successful. Same can be said for kids that develop much later. Back in the day, kids that did not get to play in the NKYFL starter and midget divisions because of large rosters and coach desire to win led to many giving up the game. In FTJFL everyone has to play at least 1 and 1/2 quarters from day one. The "key" here is to keep them playing, not so much that the direction they are getting in 3rd and/or 4th grade is going to make them a great player down the road. Another fact is the FTJFL has a weight limit which sometimes forces better players to have to play out of position because they physically developed quicker. All youth sports in todays day and age are way overrated and in many cases lead to kids being burned out on them because they play too many games and the emphasis is purely on winning rather than spending the time to teach the game. Kids need to play because they want to and not because mommy and daddy want them to so that they can go around and boast about how great their kids are at this sport or that sport.
