Louisville 33 Florida 23

Featured Replies

Side note: of the Big East's four co-champions, Louisville, Cincinnati and Syracuse all won their bowl games by 10 or more points. The only flop was Rutgers, who failed to score more than 10 points total. Typical. They'll fit in perfectly with the Big Ten.

Only Louisville was the impressive team. Cincy very lucky to beat duke. Cuse looked good against a terrible WVU team. Rutgers and Va Tech was awful to watch to say the least

If there were no championship game, you'd see that occasionally in the SEC. Florida, Georgia and Alabama all finished with one conference loss this year, so why bust out the laughter?

4 out of 8 tied for the Title right?

I think that is pretty funny. SEC has 14 teams and the Big East has 8

It is seriously the strangest football conference you can imagine. Three teams tied at the top last year.

When was the last time somebody won the Big East outright?

I just think it's funny that half the conference tied for first.

I believe UC went unbeaten in the league one of years they went to the BCS. I think it was them. I know there has been a tie in at least the last three years.

Speaking of conferences, how has the ACC done this bowl season? I put very little stock in measuring conference strength by bowl results. Some teams are motivated (e.g., UL) and some are not (e.g., SoCal and UF).

Agreed. It's also about matchups and so you'll see the third-best team from one conference play against the fourth- or fifth-best from another. It's not exactly even sometimes.

But, for what it's worth, the ACC went 4-2.

Duke lost to Cincinnati in the Belk Bowl.

NC State lost to Vanderbilt in the Music City.

Virginia Tech beat Rutgers in the Russell Athletic.

Georgia Tech beat USC in the Sun.

Clemson beat LSU in the Chick-fil-A.

Florida State beat Northern Illinois in the Orange.

*Miami and North Carolina also won enough games to be eligible but were banned from postseason play (In fact, one of them would have represented the Costal Division in the ACC championship had they not tried to cheat and gotten themselves banned.)

Big East is 9-2 vs SEC in bowl games during BCS era...

Big East is 9-2 vs SEC in bowl games during BCS era...

That must include all bowl games, not just the BCS bowl games I would assume?

I'll have more to say when I'm sure I'm going to live, but I'll start with this:

It was Florida that resorted to a trick play to score. It was Florida that tried a surprise onside kick. It was Florida that wasn't composed and from the very begining was shocked by the punch in the mouth that we delivered. Their fans were friendly--if arrogant-- before the game; during the game they were relatively quiet and outnumbered; afterwards, well, they didn't take it very well.

This was the biggest upset in BCS history, both by spread and by the rankings of the teams involved, but in every way it was Louisville that looked like the big-time team and Florida that looked like an underdog trying to follow the Boise State script.

What were the rankings when Boise State beat Oklahoma, and when Boise State beat WVU?

That must include all bowl games, not just the BCS bowl games I would assume?

Correct...

Big East is 9-2 vs SEC in bowl games during BCS era...

How did each of the teams finish in their respective conferences?

Don't know. Feel free to look it up...:D

Big East is 9-2 vs SEC in bowl games during BCS era...

Which includes Pittsburgh's victory over Kentucky in the 2010 BBVA Compass Bowl: an excellent indicator of relative conference strength if ever there was one...

With Strong staying put and this big bowl win you have to think Louisville recruiting opportunities just took a big step up. Hopefully people around the country tuned in to see their performance.

I believe it did.
