The real scary part is these sheets of ice are essentially flying guillotines. The ones that come off the back of truck trailers are the worst. They are big and get 20 feet in the air. Very scary stuff.

 

Those are terrible. I almost got taken out by one the other day.

I get the hood and all around the car but can't reach the roof to clear it off.

I had a real experience the other day. Traveling 55 mph on a two lane highway behind a maroon car and a box truck coming from the opposite direction. The 28 foot box truck(not a semi) had two pieces of ice come off of his truck (about the size of two small card tables) fly into the air about 30 feet high. Then while in the air, did a loop and crashed into that maroon car in front of me. The 60 year old woman did not see it coming. The sheet of ice hit her windshield, direct hit on the drivers side. She pulled over, then I went around her and pulled over. As I got out of my car I knew she was hurt badly. It looked like somebody beat her up with a baseball bat. I called 911 while I was approaching her car. While waiting for the ambulance, I got a towel to wrap around her head to help stop the bleeding. The first cop to the scene was there within 3 minutes and the ambulance got there a few minutes later. This was great response time as we were in a rural area. The worst thing about it was nobody pulled over to help, they would slow down to look but nobody stopped to help. It was OBVIOUS that she needed help big time. She had bruises and welts all over her face along with the cuts and bleeding profusely. Her front seat was covered in blood. I'm not bragging about what I did, just wished someone cared enough to stop!! These people weren't lazy, they just didn't care.

 

It was a frigid sunny day. The aluminum on the truck gets warm enough to thaw the bottom layer of ice, then the wind comes along and detaches it.

The guy driving the truck didn't even know it happened.

I'm not going to tear up my car to get the ice off the top. If you're driving close enough behind me where that ice could hit you, that's your fault.

You can be at three times a safe distance and more and get hit with a flying sheet of ice, I've seen it happen.

If it's flying off the top of your car by simply driving on the expressway, I doubt you'd tear your car up getting it off before you leave. I've never tore up my car getting rid of ice and snow.

When we built our house we added 2 feet to the standard garage plans. . When I bought my first full sized truck I realized it would not fit. I have since added on a second 2 car garage that will fit a 4 door full size bed pick up. (plus some other toys).

I decided to clean both of my vehicles off before the temps allowed them to blow off the roof. I know for a fact my wife's Rav4 had between 50-75 pounds of ice on the roof. I feel better knowing that crap won't be flying off of her roof and possibly causing an accident.

Guilty if it is really cold.

I will start my car 20 min before leaving and maybe scrape a peephole on the front windshield.

I hate the cold and hope to move south as soon as possible.

This FedEx guy hates the lazy people that can't do there sidewalks and front porch.

 

I dare you to deliver something to my house now, lol. Havent seen my sidewalk or drive way in over a month, front yard has 3 big pine trees down from the ice. I have 3 steps going to my front porch, good luck finding those, just jump and home you make it. Its been a mess all winter.

 

But if you do come, Ill take some printer parts please.

I heard on the morning news last week about an accident on 275E at the AA Highway in Wilder. A big chunk of ice came off of a car or truck and hit another car causing it to lose control and wreck. Some of those pieces that come off of semi-trucks are huge! I had to dodge one a couple days ago.
