The Euro Step

Featured Replies

Folks, the Euro Step is legal. I know it looks odd but it's legal.

I saw one perfectly executed last night and the fans all yelled "walk" and , sadly, the official agreed and whistled it.

Think about it. All the Euro Step is is the the foot that you're going to jump off of to shoot the layup going to the side rather than straight ahead. That's it. Nothing else different about it.

It's a great way to avoid a charge as well.

The move reminds me of a triple jump in track and field. It seems like the player goes into slow motion and bounds instead of taking regular strides. Awkward, but legal.

We have a kid who does it alot...and well i might add. he gets called for traveling about 25% of the time.

Gets called walk 50% of the time in our region.

Manu rocks and is from Argentina. Works this move as well as anyone.

Europe, South America, the USA......the world is indeed flat.

We teach it and have a kid that is as good as anyone doing it and gets called a walk 80% of the time.

Opened the thread.

Assumed it was about a new dance.

Was disappointed.

If you are not familiar with it Manu shows it at the end of this short clip.

Can't say that I agree that the Eurostep is legal. It started in the NBA where walks are seldom called. Just because it is allowed there doesn't mean it should be legal in high school.

^ It's called the Euro-step. You sure it started in the NBA?

Good point! Refs can't call walks anymore. You can run straight ahead and take an extra step and they will not call a walk. However, if you dare change direction or give a fake it is called a walk 50% of the time, no matter what! IMO

Whatever happend to if your going to take a step with the basketball you have to dribble the basketball? Why not just get rid of the dribble?
