December 28, 201213 yr Has anyone tried the "Eat This Not that" books or seething similar? Any apps that you all use? I like to have a plan to go by. Best drinks as well? I have half a case of diet Pepsi in the fridge but if prefer not to drink them even though they are 0 calories. I like Gatorade but those can be just as bad. Not a big water drinker but I guess I can be.

December 28, 201213 yr I've found that it is so easy to eat what you have in your house. So when I buy chocolates or sweats in general those get eaten first and foremost. So my fix to that is to not even buy those items so they don't even make it into the house. Responsible grocery shopping is critical. It can be pretty hard to do when noone else in the house buys into the plan. Can't tell you how much I've tried stressing this to my family.

Not a big water drinker but I guess I can be. I drink pretty much only water. If I'm drinking any sort of caffeine it's got alcohol in it or I'm not drinking it. I will do milk and OJ from time to time but for me I'm drinking water about 99% of the time, I have a 32 oz mug I fill with ice and water every day as soon as I get to work.
December 28, 201213 yr Try not to die. Me too. :lol:I. I don't know that this will be considered "fitness", but I'm going to be seeing a doctor about my knees. Sent from my DROID X2 using Forum Runner
December 29, 201213 yr Me too. :lol:I. I don't know that this will be considered "fitness", but I'm going to be seeing a doctor about my knees. Sent from my DROID X2 using Forum Runner My BP hangs around 160/90. Resting pulse has ALWAYS been about 110. Cholesterol is near the eleventy billion mark. Would love to get out and do something but neuropathy in the feet pretty much precludes doing much of anything. Can barely walk, much less do anything approaching aerobic exercise. If you even THINK you have symptoms of diabetes, get yourself checked out. Don't wait a couple of decades. My knees are still good, though.

Well, I don't have any issues that I know of other than the knees. But they are SHOT! I can't run, can't sit for long and wake up in the middle of the night unable to either bend or unbend my legs. Of course there could be more wrong with me, but I haven't been to any sort of doctor in over 15 years except if I needed an antibiotic for an already self-diagnosed sinus infection. December 29, 201213 yr Resistance Band Training is the BEST complete training program I have come across. Fits every age, gender, strength level, in good shape already or in the worst shape of your life, the bands are adaptable and can fit your needs. I have seen athletes improve performance, gain speed & quickness as well as power. Marathon runners that have taken a minute off their "per mile" time by adding a band program to their training, Folks as old as mid 70's with knee & hip replacements regain mobility. I highly recommend looking into them as a training program, not just an accessory. If interested in more info, PM me, especially in NKY. Also have a couple of real weight loss success stories. Not a magic pill, dedicated effort.
December 29, 201213 yr Id Like to get down to about 250 again.....dont see it happening though, not when I need to have both ankles operated on to be able to run without pain.

Running isn't the key, it's changing the way you eat to create a sustainable calorie deficit. You can still lift weights or do circuit training. Whichever you'd like to do can be crafted to work your cardiovascular system. If you want to change your body, there is no better way than lifting in some manner. However, dialing in your diet is THE MAIN thing.

However, dialing in your diet is THE MAIN thing. I cannot stress enough that no matter what weight loss/exercise/conditioning program you use it should start with a 1. the right diet and 2. strength training of some kind. Being stronger will make you better at anything you try to do. That goes for endurance athletes or just someone wanting to lose a few pounds.
December 31, 201213 yr Signed up for the Florida Ironman again mainly because my wife was wanting to do it. If I want go nuts and endanger myself I could pull the double whammy and also do Louisville Still not ruling it out. In what has become an annual tradition, I got up and ran 10 miles at a comfortable pace this morning to celebrate another year of health and fitness. Little cool but not too bad. Saturday morning's 6 miler was a littler cooler.
