November 28, 201213 yr This may be the most posts a UL thread has gotten in about 4 years. Well, at least since Rick had relations with that psycho lady probably.

November 28, 201213 yr Glad to see UL get out of the sinking ship that was the Big East. The ACC adds a school with great athletic programs. I haven't kept up with the conference realignment. Could a similar situation occur down the road if some of the bigger name ACC schools leave for another conference ? We've heard talks of the 4 super confences. Will the ACC be one of them ?

I'll be shocked if at least two of the current schools aren't gone by the time Louisville joins the league in two years.
November 28, 201213 yr I'll be shocked if at least two of the current schools aren't gone by the time Louisville joins the league in two years. This seems to be what a lot of people think. If that's the case, how does it affect the ACC going forward ? Is the ACC the next confrence that sinks ? I really haven't followed much of this so I honestly don't know. The ACC is obviously a better place for UL and hopefully UC at this point as the Big East is basically done. Could we see something similar to what happened to the Big East happen to the ACC ? I'm trying to wrap my head around all this craziness. If 4 super confrences are formed, is the ACC one of them ?

Hard to say. A lot of this will end up hinging on whether the Big XII makes a move for some current ACC schools. If, on the other hand, another conference goes Big XII raiding again, then maybe they find themselves in that position. I could see the SEC grabbing one team each from the ACC and Big XII just to send this thing into a tailspin and laugh as the world burns.
November 28, 201213 yr Who was it that called UCONN's interest in the ACC “the dumbest thing he’s ever heard of.”?

November 28, 201213 yr OK. I've had almost the full work day to let this all sink in and take hold. Now at the close of the afternoon as the last pleadings are typed and the last appointment dismissed, I've been able to fully comprehend what I think is happening here... ...time for the wet blanket. This whole thing will still get even weirder. The next big piece of this thing will be decided by two teams of high-priced lawyers in the wonderful drama of Atlantic Coast Conference v. University of Maryland. The ACC has sued Maryland for $52,266,342, which represents primarily the ACC's exit fee for any team leaving the conference. When the exit fee was raised after Notre Dame joined the league, Maryland and Florida State were the only two to vote against the measure (this should surprise no one and is decidedly not a coincidence). If Maryland wins the case and leaves without having to pay the exit fee... time for realignment free agency. It would then be open season on ACC members and you'd see the B1G, the Big XII and SEC make grabs at all the most desirable schools in the ACC. With no massive exit fee to worry about... North Carolina and Duke to the Big Ten, Florida State and Clemson to the Big Twelve, Virginia Tech and NC State to the SEC... anything is fair game. No doubt that for Louisville, to be in a crumbling ACC is still much better than to be in the crumbling Big East, but this thing is far from over and I'd advise my fellow Louisville fans not to get too excited about divisional alignment or possible basketball matchups because the ACC Louisville joins in two years could conceivably look very different than the one that exists today.
November 28, 201213 yr Maryland will have to pay an exit fee. The question is how much. Anything less than the 52 million and it is game on once again...
