November 28, 201213 yr There's a significant push over the last 5 years to increase the R&D. The most well-known initiative is in the downtown Medical development. The new building going up on Market is solely for R&D. It won't be long till we make a bit of a jump, IMO. UL has been making a strong emphasis and shows firm commitment to that area. I think that will pay decent dividends in the next decade or so. It's tough to move up those lists. Every university is constantly building and constantly improving. It takes a TON of money getting spent very quickly to make those moves. The Frazier family has been massively helpful in that regard, as they have with so many philanthropic causes in Louisville. The biggest moves at the moment have been improving on and building new corporate partnerships. For example, my alma mater, the University of Dayton, is currently building a huge research center in partnership with General Electric. I'll be curious to see what President Ramsey and the dean of the Speed School come up with for the new research center being constructed on the former site of the K-I Trailer Co. near Cardinal Stadium. You have to imagine that there will be some significant involvement with some pretty large companies to make that happen.

Well, clearly I need to just win Powerball tonight and use the money to start a research institute affiliated with the Speed School of Engineering. Don't worry guys, I've got this... Maybe UNC's Research committee should review their no show classes for Athletes:p
