Maryland will have to pay an exit fee. The question is how much. Anything less than the 52 million and it is game on once again...

Absolutely. A crumbling ACC with an Orange Bowl tie-in is far better than a crumbling Big East without it.

Why don't we just cut to the chase and establish the Big 4 conferences, it seems like it's gonna happen sooner or later.

If it ever actually goes to 4, I don't think the BigXII stays together. The Pac12 would need to many of their parts to get to 16.

The issue that I have seen is these conferences might then lose the tax advantage they have from the Govt.

The ACC gets the only school over the last 6 years that has had both a Men's and Women's basketball Final Four appearance' date=' College World Series, NCAA Men's Soccer finals, and a BCS game. They get a school that annually is at the top of college basketball attendance. They get a school with some of the best athletic facilities anywhere. They get a school which may not be overall as academically elite as many others, has been quietly making strides over the last couple of decades.[/quote']

If it ever actually goes to 4, I don't think the BigXII stays together. The Pac12 would need to many of their parts to get to 16.

 

I think the 5x14 model is going to be around for a while (which does mean further raiding by the Big XII and ACC), even as we look to the 4x16 down the road. To get to this 4x16 super conference format, the Pac 12 needs four more members, the SEC two, the B1G two and the Big XII would need an astounding six more teams. I'm not convinced that either the Pac 12 or Big 12 will start grabbing up whatever schools they can find to get to 16.
