Who are your Top 5 players in NKY?

Featured Replies

You've grossly underestimated Donovan McCoy's offense.

They do not win against CCH without McCoy.

Disagree.

Insert Houliston - still 2 Bluebird wins. He is a very good QB that sits and waits his turn while McCoy completes an awesome senior season.

I love Nussbaum and he should be in the top 5, but to have Collins so far down is something I don't agree with. Actually Nuss and Collins and Fogle are all the same type of player and all 3 should be listed and you could put the 3 in any order you want as long as all 3 were following eachother.

I'd have the 3 of them as the top 3 players because they can do it all, offense defense, special teams. All 3 of them are the heart of their respected teams and the teams only go as far as those 3 players go.

If Scott had a better O-line, you might see Josh Castleman being mentioned on this list. He might not be top 5 but a very good ball player regardless.

I should have mentioned that I took the teams surrounding factors in account. The reason I have Collins lower is bc Cooper is probably the best all around team when u compare these particular players outside of highlands.

I have Nuss #1 bc if beechwood doesn't have him, they wouldn't be much without him. He did pretty much everything for them all year.

#2 Durham because he was basically Campbell's entire offense. Without him Camels struggle severely.

#3 Bir. Without his passing game CCH wouldn't have been in the mix like they were. Their running game was sub par all year. He made their offense go.

The reason I don't have Barker higher and Fogle mentioned is because they were on the same team. When you have two players like that its a blessing compared to the top 3 I mentioned who are the only top tier player on their team in the top 5 or so category. Teams have to focus on both rather than just one particular player. Therefore, I went with Barker bc he generates the offense and is the biggest threat on Connor. However, both would slide on my list bc they lost early in playoffs.

McCoy slid to #5 because highlands is the best team in NKY by far even without him the birds are arguably still the best around. But he is a great talent.

Hayes you could argue should be a little higher bc he rly makes the breds offense go. The passing game is ok however without him new cath struggles to score IMO.

There are alot of players who everyone could argue are in the Top 5 so I won't narrow that scope but importance to their respective teams is more important IMO. Linemen, players that go both ways, etc. are just as equally if not more important. Everyone mentioned in this thread has some value but I can name at least 5-10 more that are just as equally important or just as good that are not mentioned.

The post-season awards will come out soon so we will let the chips fall where they may but there will be several I'm sure that deserve just as much consideration if not more that won't make the cut.

Agreed!!! In just the last 2 years alone Cooper would not of had near the success they had if not for some great linemen that played both ways. The reason their defense has been so good the past 2 years is due largely in fact by these players on the line.

If they even want to play in college. I am hearing a bunch of kids are so burnt out on football they arent even thinking about playing at the next level. Unless you are a Patrick Towles or Drew Barker garnering OSU, KY, Louisville type Div 1 schools I think you are better off just going to college and enjoying the experience.

I did both of these, but I'm glad that I played. Put closure on my competitive sports career. Now I play sports for actual fun and don't have to wear two batting gloves, eye black, and sweat bands when I play beer league softball.

You have to break out the sweat bands though....especially the head band. Be proud of that 70's look!!!

No argument from me. However, a unit is not going to be named a top player. It's the life of a lineman.

When my kid was six, he comes home, peels off all the stickers from his helmet at the end of the season and puts them on a page labelled "2004 ~name of peewee team ~ Stats" then writes across the bottom: Sacks - 6. Picks - 2. Tackles - 43 solo. GB's - 68.

Now, I know some football and have never seen the stat "GB" so I ask him and he says, real matter of fact, "Oh, those are Great Blocks." And I respond that I'm not aware that actually IS a stat that is kept in any level of football. He comes back with "Oh, I know, the O line never gets any love." Needless to say, I will keep that piece of construction paper for the rest of my life.

McCoy' date=' Harris, Seidl, Turner, and Hope in no particular order.[/quote']

Whew ... I was worried as I started reading your names thinking you were going to have all the defensive players in Ft. Thomas beating on your door.

These are about the best five I've seen. Maybe a little biased since I only go to see the Birds.:p
