Watched this game on Ihigh. The announcers were terrible. Never heard so much laughing during a game.

Very nice win by the Tigers. I am surprised that this ended up being a blowout. Apparently the gap between Frankfort and Beechwood over the years is greater than most of us realized meaning that Frankfort needs to be a lot better than what they think if they are going to beat Beechwood.

For Frankfort everything that could have went wrong did in the first half. Losing #7 Jalen Washington really hurt. I said all year depth was what the Panthers lacked and it showed tonight.

Many thought the gap had closed, enough so to predict a Panther win. Beechwood took some lumps early but their SOS was far superior to Frankfort's.

 

How did the Fr QB play?

Beechwood received the opening kickoff and took control of the game from the start. The yards were not easy as Frankfort's defense was tough all night. The Tigers faced a 4th down on their opening drive and freshman QB Kyle Fieger said no problem, putting a 30 yard pass on the money to Chris Lightner. Lightner was tackled at the 3. Max Nussbaum got the first score on a 1 yard TD run. Miles Sletto kicked the extra point and the Tigers had the lead at 7-0 with 7:51. Frankfort was moving the ball on their first possession taking it inside the 20, but a bad shotgun snap went way over QB Chris Hawkins head and then the loss was compounded as RB Teantre McGee picked up the loose ball and went backwards trying to cut around the closing Beechwood defenders. At the end of the play the Panthers were facing 3rd and 45 on the other side of midfield. They tried to change field position with a quick punt on 3rd down but the ball only went about 10 yards after it bounced backwards so the Tigers had it at their own 42.

 

The Tigers second drive carried into the 2nd quarter as they grinded it out with running play after running play straight up the middle. But the Panthers toughened and stopped the Tigers on downs at the 24. The nice defensive stop went for naught as the Panthers fumbled the ball a couple plays later at the 24. The Tigers capitalized on the turnover with Nussbaum running it in from 8 yards out, 14-0 Tigers with 10:22 left. The Panthers had a nice kickoff return and started their next drive at their own 46. But on the first play the Nussbaum intercepted a long pass at the 23. The Tigers were forced to punt on that possession with Nussbaum's punt being downed at the 8. The Panthers made some plays on this drive and went for it on 4th down at the 41 with the Tigers getting the stop. On the first play, Fieger hit Nussbaum down the sideline and Nuss took it 59 yards for a Tigers TD, 21-0 at 3:54. After a Tigers interception return for a TD was called back by penalty, Aaron Jackson showed why he is a D1 recruit. He took a 10 yard Hawkins pass in the middle of the field and then cut multiple times on his way to a 48 yard TD. It was a great play by Jackson. Bailey Spade's extra point was good and the Panthers had some life, 21-7 with 1:14 left, and that is how the half ended as the Tigers ran out the clock.

 

In the 3rd quarter, the Panthers were showing some progress on offense picking up a couple first downs but then they fumbled the ball to the Tigers at the 41. Beechwood's grinding offense went to work again as they moved down field to another Nussbaum score, this time from 5 yards out, 28-7 with 5:12 left. Frankfort was stopped on downs on their next drive after moving it from their own 20 to the Beechwood 41. Then the Tigers were forced to punt the ball on their drive, with Nussbaum kicking it to the 6 as the quarter ended.

 

The poor field position forced the Panthers to punt on 4th down and the Tigers had the ball just 45 yards from pay dirt. Beechwood again moved down field and Nussbaum scored his, and Beechwood's, 5th TD on a 3 yard run with 7:29 to go to put the game out of reach. Each team did nothing on their next possession. The Panthers showed their pride and determination as they moved to a score on their final drive with Hawkins hitting Aaron Jackson with a 14 yard TD pass with 23 seconds left. The 2 point attempt failed giving us the final score of 35-13.

I have to say the Beechwood coaching staff is doing an incredible job with this team. It was a great game plan on both sides of the ball. The Tigers played a 3 man line on defense and focused on shutting down the Panther passing game. The offense kept it between the tackles and negated Frankfort's speed by running straight at them. Nussbaum was a man. Tough yards all night dragging tacklers forward on play after play. Fieger made good decisions and nice throws when the Tigers passed the ball. Great game by the Tigers. Frankfort has some very good players and this score doesn't do their team justice. Too many turnovers gave them no chance. Aaron Jackson is a stud. Great year for the Panthers.

Fieger was very solid. The Tigers didn't ask much of him tonight with some safe short pass plays but he was on target when he was asked to throw. He made some very nice throws. The pass to Lightner on the first drive was a really good one. I don't know his stats but I would guess 7-12 for perhaps 150 yards.

If BW goes to the state championship will Fieger have played in enough games to letter?

I just saw the highlights on "The Blitz" and I must say Frankfort's QB looked a bit like a short Lorenzen. Same number and a lefty to boot.
