I've read a lot this year about Cooper's speed on D. Granted I only saw them once and it was against Conner but I didn't notice any speed that was different than any other team. They certainly struggled with Conner's O. They certainly do not have FC speed.

Cooper can win but they will have to have success passing the ball IMO.

Clyde, if you base anything from Cooper off the Conner game then you will be mistaken how good they are. The Conner game was the only game this year where I didn't recognize Cooper's defense. A complete admiration. They may not be any faster then anyone else and they may lose by 35 against FC but the Conner game was a fluke by their defense. They just didn't show up for whatever reason. They have played some very good offenses and this one game they didn't have it.

So you're saying Cooper played "slower" on defense in that game? I don't buy it. One can argue about execution but speed is either there or it's not. Cooper has decent speed. Nothing that I would put in the scouting book as a potential issue.

Add in that NKY is not known as a speed region and it backs up my point even further. IMO they're a traditionally tough NKY defense that relies on grit and execution and not overwhelming teams with speed.

It makes me wonder how slow past Cooper defenses were.

The thing about the Conner game was that Cooper d-line was handled and Conner went straight at them.

I wouldn't say they played any slower that game on defense, what I would say is what I have said before about that game is that for the first time all year the defense overpursued everything. Kids played out of position all night due to overpurssuing. Instead of being concerned with thier duties and where they needed tto be and defend their area of the field the entire front 7 simply overpursued for some reason and cut back lanes were wide open all night long.

That is where they played poorly. The speed had nothing to do with it, it was as if you could run a counter against Cooper that night and have huge gain everytime.

I doesn't really matter what happened in the Conner game or the Anderson Co. game. No, the Jags do not have blazing speed but what we do have is a solid defense built on playing correct positional assignment football and a pretty darn good offense with multiple formations so they are not predicable. We don't change up alot regardless of who we play so we let the chips fall where they may. We are just a poor ole' NKY school that has been in existence just 5 years but just happens to 11-1, guess it's a fluke. FC has some great athletes and maybe we have not faced a team with as many said athletes but when you look at our schedule nearly every team with the exception of couple have had overall better team speed because with the exception of Collins, Morris and Morgan we are not going to win too many track meets. I will say that if we can get stops on defense we are a pretty tough team to beat. Getting those stops will be huge task but if we get them the Jags can win this game.

Please, please keep the focus on the #2 5A team in FC because yes they do deserve all the praise. The Cooper Jaguars are just going to show up and play football like they have for 11 of the 12 games this year (there was a team of imposters in the Conner game...lol) and if we can find a way to pull out another road victory we will.

I don't think Cooper has an answer for Timmons, but if Cooper can have their offense playing like it has so far in the playoffs they can run some serious time off the clock with some long clock eating possesions and who knows, maybe they can get lucky with a stop here and there on defense to keep the game close. Then anything can happen. I don't think in my wildest dreams that Cooper will be able to shut down Timmons etc. but you never know if they can just have a couple defensive stands and a turnover here and there then anything can happen.

I have been one who has talked about Cooper's speed on defense and that is in big part because of the front four. I think they are fast on their defensive line and then that is backed by Collins, Morris and Morgan. Honestly, Franklin County is a different animal. The speed and athletes they have are pretty incredible. Cooper needs to play disciplined defensive football and limit the big plays. Easier said than done against FC. As someone said above, just get some stops. You aren't going to shut FC down. Keep them under 40, limit possessions and control the clock and get 41. That is the recipe for a win for Cooper.

Cooper's defense through 12 games so far has avg'd only giving up 11 pts a game. They have only allowed more than 21 pts scored twice so far (Conner 38, So. Oldham playoff game 28). I think this will be only the 2nd game this season where they will allow more than 28 pts scored. The defense is solid, but will have to play the best they've played all season this game.

If Cooper recieves the opening kickoff they have scored everytime on their first drive (superstition comes into play here) and have nnot slowed down on offense the eentire game. If they kick off first, then they tend to struggle (superstition again)

So I am hoping we recieve the opening kickoff and force FC to play catch up the entire game.

1 player for FC that scares me even more than Timmons is Maupin. He is a huge receiving threat annd worries me a lot.

Their kicker is not good and if they kick anything other that onsides it will be taken to the endzone.

One of the dumber things I've read on here, which is saying a lot!

The kicker kicks where he is told to. In addition, if the returner runs it back, that's a coverage issue, not a kicker issue. And as far as I've seen, Cooper's kicker seems to be NAILS on XP's so not sure what you're talking about, as I am sure you don't know either.

Cooper is going to have to control the clock and tempo in this game. FC is an offensive force but I'm not sure they've seen a defense as stout as Cooper's can be. Should be another great game in the Bluegrass.

What? Do you not understand what he is saying?

I clearly do not. I thought he was slamming on Cooper's kicker. If I misread that, I apologize.

Can you clarify if I was off on that?

I don't want to speak for him, but I can give you my interpretation: I took his comments to mean Cooper's kicker is not capable of kicking deep and would put the ball in the hands of Franklin County's very athletic return guys and give them a great chance of a huge return each kick off. In other words, kicking to the 30 with a very fast return guy would likely result in a return of 20 or 30 yards allowing the offense to set up 1st and 10 on the opponent's side of the field if it is not returned all the way for a TD.

Not a dig on the kicker really, but more of a complement on the Franklin County return team.

Cooper's kicker is good enough. He doesn't kick the ball out of the back of the endzone but has put many kickoffs down inside the 5. The last game had several inside the 5 or in the endzone. He may not be as consistent as liked on deep kickoffs, but gets the job done just fine.

With that said, I don't have a problem with short kicks or even onside kicks, but when you are up on a team by say...17, I don't mind kicking deep once to see if you can pin them back further than the 50 yardline.

Their kicker is not good and if they kick anything other that onsides it will be taken to the endzone.

It's ok to respect talent, but you have to take your chances IMO. If you are going to do that many onside kicks, you better recover at least half of them.

I guess I didn't word it like I wanted to. If you go back to my thoughts after the game I said it looked like the Cooper D-Line was on ice skates. The Conner O-Line did a great job which caused them to look that way. I guess execution would be better to say. Have you ever heard the saying "they were flying to the ball", etc.. That's kind of what I meant in that game Cooper wasn't "flying" to the ball. They didn't bring the same emotion to the game that Conner did. That was the only time this year I saw them in that mode and that's why I wanted them to face Conner again to see how they would perform. Remember, while it doesn't mean squat, I think Cooper "won" the second half but they were in too deep of a hole. I think the rematch, if Conner could have gotten there, may have been different. I do not think Cooper has any blazing speed that is different than other NKY teams but they are not slow at any level either.

P.S... I meant "aberation" in my original post... not sure why I put "admiration".
