November 7, 201213 yr Folks if the trend continues. In 4 years, we won't be talking about the 47%. That number will grow until at least 50.1% of the people pay no federal income tax. Once that happens the democrats can't lose.
November 7, 201213 yr I think Rubio would be a good move, but again, could he win the nomination? That is the problem in the Republican party. They have become so conservative dominated that you have to be far right or headed that way to win the nomination.

America goes through these pendulum swings all the time, it has happened all through history. Their platform will adjust and be more reflective of what we consider to be Libertarian, imo.

True, it hasn't been very many years since we were hearing discussions about if the Democratic party would ever be relevant again. It seems to come up every 8 years or so about one party or the other.

It seems to come up every 8 years or so about one party or the other. I recall that discussion clearly in the 80's. But Bill Clinton arrived and it swung the other way.

November 7, 201213 yr I recall that discussion clearly in the 80's. But Bill Clinton arrived and it swung the other way.And in 2000 the Presidency and Congress swung to the Republicans and by 2002 was Republican controlled if memory serves.

I think you're right but do you think this happens randomly or because the parties recognize the changes and adapt to them?
November 7, 201213 yr And in 2000 the Presidency and Congress swung to the Republicans and by 2002 was Republican controlled if memory serves. Correct. Tide goes in, tide goes out.
November 7, 201213 yr I think you're right but do you think this happens randomly or because the parties recognize the changes and adapt to them? Parties that survive adapt and change in order to survive. Those that don't: See Dixiecrats, Whigs, Federalists.
November 7, 201213 yr I think you're right but do you think this happens randomly or because the parties recognize the changes and adapt to them?As my last sentence alluded to, I believe the parties adjust to the electorate and adapt accordingly.
November 7, 201213 yr I think you're right but do you think this happens randomly or because the parties recognize the changes and adapt to them? I think it's as much the instant gratification syndrome of the american voter. Give one party 8 years and if we don't have paradise(we won't), try the other.
November 7, 201213 yr I think it's as much the instant gratification syndrome of the american voter. Give one party 8 years and if we don't have paradise(we won't), try the other. I think so too. I also think when one party has control for long enough they are prone to ideological excesses that most Americans don't share.
November 7, 201213 yr Looking at exit polling, I feel this is more about the female vote than it is the Latino/minority vote.
