The Republican "White" Problem Revisited

Featured Replies

I started a thread in August that deals with the changing demographics of the country and the problem that has caused for the Rs.

IMO electing a candidate that plays to the far right / white side of the party is a mistake.

President Obama was a sitting duck for a strong R candidate who could appeal to the moderates and dark-skinned Americans.

I'm looking for logic that says I'm wrong.

Without looking at tonight's numbers breakdown, I would think a candidate with more appeal to females would get the job done.

Not a bad call. Maybe that's the same type of candidate.

Condi?

Tough call. She is very conservative.

She's pro abortion, so not all that conservative.

I stand corrected. That would be interesting.

Could she get through the primary?

I don't think so. Perhaps if it was known that Hilary was her competition, but even then I'm not sure.

Rice is a brilliant woman. Her speech at the GOP convention was outstanding.

Rove says the Rs should dominate the Latino vote.

It's always been Rove's personal crusade behind the scenes, because he's from Texas and he's seen the future. He knows that if Republicans lose Latinos to identity politics in a generational way, they will need impossible margins of white voters to avoid being a permanent minority party.

Fox News reporting that Obama increased his Latino support by 2% during this election.

While that may be a stretch, it is within the realm of possibility.

One of the networks I was watching came up with some statistic to the effect that "if you vote one party or the other at least 3 times in a row; you're permanent".

It feels like the only Republican card that can have a chance in 2016 would be a Rubio/Rice combination.

After watching Rubio at the RNC, I thought he could win President one day. He's probably secure the Latino vote. I don't know much about him, but he seemed strong that night.
