Agreed, Gray has two very good players. The Birds also play a first round game in the Dayton tournament vs Walto Verona tomorrow. Its a tough week but that's why you play the games. Wins are great but getting better and having fun with your teammates is really what is most important at this level. I have been guilty of getting caught up in the winning and being frustrated with coaches and referees. However, when you think about the Connecticut tragedy it really puts things into perspective. Cheering on both teams to do well is the right thing to do. Making loud noises or yelling "Noonan" right before a 6th grader shoots a FT is ridiculous.

BTW, to stay with the thread, saw a good Holmes 6th grade team dismantle Highlands 6th today 42-20. A 2 point game at the half got blown open in the third quarter when Highlands could only manage a single free throw, and Holmes' Turner got red hot and hit nothing but twine on 3 straight treys. He added a 4th in the fourth. Holmes suffocating press and ability to shoot the long ball will make them very difficult to beat. Highlands falls to 8-2 with the loss.

Holmes is very good. Very quick and yes their press is difficult to break. They do seem to rely on the 3 point shot.

Holmes press was good, Highlands didn't match their aggressive play. When the refs are clearly only calling tied balls and no fouls you have to adjust and match it.

 

Turner is a true shooter with no conscience. He missed his first 5 but kept shooting like good shooters do. He wasall net on his last 4.

 

If you can throw over their press you can score pretty easily but that isn't so easy.

That's okay. I have seen Caddyshack, but it was so long ago that it just didn't sink in when he said that. I will have to watch it again.

Turkey Foot 8th grade beat Highlands 48 - 27 in the Dayton Holiday Tournament yesterday.

1 pt game at half! Turkey Foot took control in 3rd and much closer than score as HHS clears the bench for the 4th. HHS was coming off 2 straight two pt losses to Woodland and Holmes and during those games only going about 8 deep. Figured sub time and e-mails

Walton Verona 6th grade boys beat Highlands in first round of Dayton Tournament.

Not sure of the score but heard it was by around 13 or so. Heard that WV was up by as many as 20 at one point.

Highlands 7th grade beat Holy Cross 44-38. Game was very physical.

Highlands has a lot of talent not being utilized effectively IMO. No secondary break whatsoever, basic offense andone out of bounds play. The boys look like robots out ther worrying more about where they need to be on the floor then utilizing their ability to create and score. It's becoming tough to watch. WV has a nice team but they didn't get a good game from the Birds.

 

Schultz hit a couple big treys and the big kid was a load on the block. Brandon Finn led the Bluebirds, he plays hard and converted some nice baskets.

 

Possibly these two will see each other again in the finals.
