Freshman basketball

Featured Replies

The Arnold kid was pretty nice at State. He prob is moving up to the JV and maybe the tall boy Moore. I'm not sure of the names just remember seeing them and reading about them on the KBA website.

How big is Arnold? Heard the Moore kid is already in the 6'4 range and that they have another kid, with the last name Englemon, that is a pretty good guard with size.

Didn't someone from that 8th grade team transfer to Highlands? Or was that just rumor?

Thanks, Q.

I am making my rounds starting next week for our nkysports.com hoops team previews so I'll have more on the freshmen and names from Holmes Thurs night.

I'll be at Newcath Wed night, Holmes thurs afternoon, and Dixie Fri.

Pendleton County's Hunter Wood is the only freshman moving up this season. He will play JV and Varsity this season. In 2011-2012, Wood played on the Freshman and JV team at PCHS as an 8th grader. He is a 5'10" PG.

I would have thought the Sweeny kid would have too.

Sweeny will be playing JV for Cov Cath.

Good to hear! :thumb: Hunter is a good kid & I wish him the best!

Thanks, Q.

You will be shocked when you see all the height that this team has. Two freshman will be playing JV, Jacob Smith and 6'5" Ben Weyer.

Thad Moss did move to WV his last day at Boone was Friday

Looking forward to seeing the Breds and talking with Coach Brannen.

The following freshmen will be playing JV/Varsity this year for Holmes:

5'11 Stephon Green

5'11 Ian Balley

6'2 Andrew Arnold

6'5 Brandon Moore

Arnold is probably the best of the bunch. Saw him tonight and man is that kid put together for his age. Every bit of 6'2 and atleast 200 lbs. He showed a nice touch from beyond the arc and is a bull down low. Also started varsity football at LB this year. Coach Booher said as of right now he is probably 6th man.

Moore is having surgery so he wasn't practicing but he is strictly a JV/Varsity player. Heard great things about him. Said he is probably the most polished big man of the group as far as post moves go.

Greene is well put together for a frosh. 5'11 and probably in the 170 range. Very quick and strong. He was holding his own against the older guys.

Last is Ian Balley who is a 5'11 SG that is very smart with the ball and a solid spot up shooter. Think Nate Edmondson at the same age but not as tall.

Brennan Englemon is playing freshman ball.

This group will be scary good by the time they are seniors. Looking forward to seeing them at the JV level in a couple weeks.

Davonte Williams of Dixie will be playing up at the Jv level from what I've heard.

Anyone know anything about him.

Didn't Holmes' 8th grade team win the middle school state championship last year? Have heard Holmes freshman class is loaded and that their JV team will basically be that same team plus Marcus Hill and another sophomore. Talked to a coach not too long ago and he said the JV went undefeated over the summer with that group. Sorry I don't have any names.

Anyone have any idea who their best players were last year?

Arnold and Moore are both outstanding. They will have a tough time playing varsity but should get JV time. Arnold has the best chance to play up. Moore has a lot of size, I would say 6'5-6"

I saw them as 8th graders last year and at this point Arnold is by far the best. In the end though, Moore could be the the better player due to size. He is going to be a big kid.

Agreed. Moore could be in the 6'8-6'9 range by the time he's done growing.
