Will Brossart ever convince the basketball Gods to let their players play Football?

Featured Replies

While they have many student athletes, when will Brossart realize that unless they can use some of their basketball talent on the Gridiron, football will not survive at this school? Look how many multi-sport athletes are at NCC? Year in, and year out, you'll see the same names at all other small schools on the football field as well as on the court, on the diamond, or on the track. I feel terribly that they can't get this ironed out.

Please advise how many NCC footballers Will start on the hoops team this year?

Since you are obviously obsessed with BBHS football from your many negative comments this year, please enlighten me and tell me which BBallers are sitting around not playing football at the behest of the "BB Gods"?? Curious??

About the same time the football gods at Highlands give their wholehearted support of their football players to compete on the hardwood.

I see no Zach Pangallo, Michael Bueter, Nick Seibert, Brennan Devoto, Colin DuPont, Jake Schulte, or Drew MacDonald, varsity Breds basketball players, playing football. Actually Mac Franzen and Jake Haas are the only two varsity "multi-sport (basketball) student-athletes" that are playing football at NCC.

At Brossart Ben Uebel, Luke Ridder, Jake Jennings, and Mark Goller, four varsity basketballers play soccer. Ted MacDonald and Austin Shannon, two varsity hoopsters, play football, as do potentials Casey Pelgen, Justin Schack, and Jarred Martin. Coach Mike Code has NEVER discouraged any roundballer who wanted to play football from doing so. There have actually been cases (Greg Stortz) where Mike has felt that playing football would benefit a basketball player.

Believe it or not there are some guys who are simply basketball players, they play in open gyms and go to the workout gym during the summer, condition in the fall, and are in the gym when basketball practice starts on October 15th. How insane is it that you advocate that guys like Drew Burns, Alex Trentman, Justin Saunders, Erik Rieger and others should jeopardize their primary sport seasons/careers simply in order to "share their talents" with the football team??? They are basketball players by choice, not by restriction!!!

Go feel terribly for someone else. We don't need your sympathy OR constant editorial comment about our program that you continue to say more and more about, but obviously know less and less!

I guess that answers your question FTBIGBIRD. Looks like some of the BBall players do play football.

You have to understand the dynamic. For the MOST part, not wholly true, but the most part, if Catholic kids in Campbell Co. want to play football and receive a Catholic education, they go to NewCath. Old habits die hard and many of the football playing families in Southern CC are NewCath alums. As has been stated previously, and very well I think, as soon as Brossart was put in AA w/ NewCath as a district foe, it was going to be near impossible to change this tradition. Add to it that NewCath is conitnuing to take their program to higher levels, and BB is going to have a hard time keeping players. They can have BB players play football, the issue is having kids that want to play football year round.

Good points. And I will add that if they are non NCC football families with the new football regime at the County, unless they are Brossart families they will not look to Brossart to fulfill the football needs.

I can only think of a couple of kids who quit football to concentrate on basketball: Spencer Hackworth (who imo was sorely missed at QB when Brossart had to resort to a freshman QB) and Blake Saunders, both sophomores. :idunno:

BB has a strong basketball program with one heck of a coach dont mess with it!! I still think football was a bad idea but it is what it is for the Mustangs.

Tanner Norton is a beast. He doesn't play basketball- baseball only.

And what does that have to do with "The Basketball Gods" keeping kids from playing football theme of this thread??

Tanner will have someone pay for his college via baseball, and obviously choses to concentrate on that sport; as he gave up basketball to spend more time on his #1 sport.

Has everything to do with athletes not wanting to participate in football at BB, even though they would clearly make that program much better than it is.
