Will Brossart ever convince the basketball Gods to let their players play Football?

Featured Replies

Has everything to do with athletes not wanting to participate in football at BB, even though they would clearly make that program much better than it is.

Not participating in a sport is not unique for a HS kid?? Doubtful there's a school out there that has 100% of the kids "that would clearly make that program much better" playing any given sport. Kids don't play for a variety of reasons--jobs, girlfriends, burnout, concentrate on another sport or God forbid-academics, etc.

Just because a kid would enhance his school team's chances doesn't obligate him to play a given sport?? These are 16-18 year old kids and newsflash--They can be unpredictable?? BB does need to do a better job getting everyone that can help out for football, but let's not single out a kid because he decides to concentrate on his future.

It has to be hard to get kids to play when the team is getting beat down every week. I dont think any kid sits there and says, I want to play football so I can lose by 50 points" It is going to be a very very tough uphill battle for BB football.

About the same time the football gods at Highlands give their wholehearted support of their football players to compete on the hardwood.

I see no Zach Pangallo, Michael Bueter, Nick Seibert, Brennan Devoto, Colin DuPont, Jake Schulte, or Drew MacDonald, varsity Breds basketball players, playing football. Actually Mac Franzen and Jake Haas are the only two varsity "multi-sport (basketball) student-athletes" that are playing football at NCC.

At Brossart Ben Uebel, Luke Ridder, Jake Jennings, and Mark Goller, four varsity basketballers play soccer. Ted MacDonald and Austin Shannon, two varsity hoopsters, play football, as do potentials Casey Pelgen, Justin Schack, and Jarred Martin. Coach Mike Code has NEVER discouraged any roundballer who wanted to play football from doing so. There have actually been cases (Greg Stortz) where Mike has felt that playing football would benefit a basketball player.

Believe it or not there are some guys who are simply basketball players, they play in open gyms and go to the workout gym during the summer, condition in the fall, and are in the gym when basketball practice starts on October 15th. How insane is it that you advocate that guys like Drew Burns, Alex Trentman, Justin Saunders, Erik Rieger and others should jeopardize their primary sport seasons/careers simply in order to "share their talents" with the football team??? They are basketball players by choice, not by restriction!!!

Go feel terribly for someone else. We don't need your sympathy OR constant editorial comment about our program that you continue to say more and more about, but obviously know less and less!

Well said, Mustang.

Sorry, traveling for work. I didn't realize there would be such an interest. I've just heard there were some beasts in other sports that could make a difference on gridiron. It seems all my questions have been answered. Thank you everyone for the input.
