It is funny! We hear that all the time and it gets old. And I will give the new poster the benefit of the doubt, but my gut says it was a shot at HHS. We are very proud that we develop our own kids and watch them transform into amazing kids and athletes, so this hits us below the belt a little. Not because we get defensive because of the preceived notion, but because of what I stated earlier.

 

Yes, we do have kids that transfer in to play football because of the success of the program and the education. We've discussed this 100 times and most understand that. However as one other poster stated, the number of kids that transfer into HHS for education drastically outweighs the number that come for football. I would say 95% (maybe more) of the football team actually live in Ft. Thomas and the vast majority of them are kids that were born in the community or have parents that are alumni and have moved back for to Ft. Thomas for schooling and football (or other sports) Ft. Thomas is a very close community and you end up seeing the last names of the kids repeat themselves on the football field year after year...

 

And this is the joy of BGP. I may have taken a shot or two at Highlands since I became a member but in delivering those shots I learned a lot about the Highlands program. I mean a whole lot. My views of Highlands since my first post to my most recent post have changed exponentially. Had I not delivered a shot or two and engaged in interaction with Highlands people then I would never know that all teams needed to do was work harder and they would achieve ultimate success like Highlands. I just want to help cultivate good relationships on here between those who have doubts or questions about Highlands and how they achieve their success and those from Highlands. It's all love on here at the end of the day.

I'm assuming your a purple of the bghs variety. Having lived in Ft. Thomas about 60 percent of my life and Bowling Green the last 40 percent, I always get tickled hearing about all the kids from Ohio and other Northern Ky counties playing for the Birds. Even heard we're a private Catholic school. I know for a fact the Warren County school system attempted to determine the number of out of district kids playing for the Purples in various sports. Football was somewhere in the 35 percent area and some sports like baseball and soccer were close to 50 percent out of district. This didn't include parents that use business addresses and rental property addresses for in district enrollment purposes so the numbers are probably even higher. Granted Warren County is expanding rapidly and the Bowling Green City School district is land locked and needs out of district school kids to fill it's enrollment but I feel very comfortable in saying Bowling Green Football benefits from out of district kids to a much greater extent than the Birds by a factor of about 6 to 7 to 1. Agree completely.New there were Lone Oak purlpes and Campell Co purples. Didn't know about Somerset and SOuthwestern. Could include Male as well. Heck Male and BG colors and traditions are nearly identical to the point of colors and the "H" thing. Sorry if I jumped to conclusions.

I said previously in this thread that schools that have financial drivers from football success, combined with no enrollment boundaries, would be more successful than those that do not, regardless of enrollment. Schools that serve a highly impoverished population simply have bigger things to worry about than football success. It is the difference between a cash cow that funds your existence, and an extra curricular activity. It is the difference between having 6 varsity coaches and 36 varsity coaches.

I.e.--Tates Creek and its Appian way and Center Parkway contingent. Most impoverished and least supported/funded school in Lexington. Also the smallest enrollment of all the Lexington public Schools.

That is quite a bit different than saying it's a cash cow that funds their existance. Sure it's an attraction for some, along with multiple other factors. They would be dumb not to advertise when and where they can.
