Giants at Reds (NLDS Game 5) 10/11/12

Featured Replies

Bad day to have a bad day but Latos' future is bright.

Needs to get tougher mentally. (see Bailey, Homer).

I think the mental part is what did him in today. Even with the questionable calls he should have been out of that inning down 2-0. Instead he pouted and allowed the Giants to have a huge inning. That was all on him. However, he's 24 years old and just finished his 3rd full season in the big leagues. With that kind of stuff I'd have to bet on him figuring it out. I think that trade may be the one that gets the Reds to the World Series in the next couple of years.

171 days and counting. Gonna be a long off season. Probably the most disappointing loss ever for me as a fan.

Weren't around for the '72 Game 7 or the '73 Game 5 at Shea Stadium were you?

Mine was game 6 of the '75 Series. Fortunately the funk only lasted about 24 hours.

I was negative 14

75 Game 6 was tough, but Game 7 made that disappear. The two losses at home against the Pirates in the 79 NLCS were very tough pills to swallow.

Cincy fans continue to see smoke screens in sports. Just a brutal sports city. When and if Reds make it back the first round monkey will be there.

I may change the name of one of my existing kids...

That's funny. "Look, I'm sorry, but you're going to have to change your name to Dioner..."

Even better if it's a girl.

The Game 4 crowd was pretty muted. But the fans for Game 5 were all in and enthusiastic. Even when the Reds went down 6-0, the atmosphere was more energetic than it had been. And the fans stayed into it through rallies over the last four innings. Joey Votto could be seen applauding the fans from second base as Jay Bruce stood in for an epic 12-pitch at-bat in the ninth. “The crowd was fantastic,” Votto said. “I was very, very impressed with how supportive they were. I’m really proud of being a Cincinnati Red. I’m very proud we have an excellent, supportive fan base. We just need to give them some wins, play deep in the playoffs and win a World Series here. And the support will increase ten-fold, I’m sure.”

*Bruce on his at-bat in the 9th:

“Sergio has a lot of sink on his ball, so I was just making sure to get something out over the plate, and I did,” Bruce said. “He gave me some pitches I could handle. To be honest with you, the at-bat shouldn’t have lasted that long, in my opinion. He made his pitches, he didn’t give in. It was a long at-bat, but I wouldn’t really call it a ‘good’ one, in my opinion. Good ones end differently.”

Deflating end for Reds « Mark My Word

I agree. The crowd stayed in it until the very last pitch today. Even though the loss was devastating, I do have to say the atmosphere was much better today than it was Tuesday(bizarre) or Wednesday(mind-numbing snooze fest).

How much does this Romo guy weigh? Looks to be about 130.

He weighs about 15 pounds more than Miss Lincecum.:p

Unless somebody thinks there is a market for them on ebay, tomorrow morning I think I will take my complete sets of NLCS and World Series tickets outside to:

A. Run over them with my car

B. Put them through the paper shredder

C. Burn the remains

I am very disappointed. I hate baseball right now. The only celebration I will be having will be when my Master Card statement comes and I don't have to pay for those tickets.

On the way out of GABP, I started to wonder if I had thought the 2012 Reds were better than what they actually are?

I was unable to watch the game, but was sitting on the edge of my seat for the last 4 innings. I thought for sure Bruce was going to win the game in the last inning. It was a great season though, and just hopefully they can bounce right back and get back to this position next season.

Hard to believe. They hadn't lost 3 straight at home all season. They swallowed the oyster.

The thought of no baseball makes me very sad. Come on basketball season.

I was negative 14

You no doubt enjoyed the '75 series much more, since you had reached the ripe old age of negative 12.
