Gay characters at all time high on TV

Featured Replies

I don't want to answer in anyone's place but I do think it is difficult to deny that hollywood as a whole (actors, directors, producers, etc.) to tend to lean to the left and sometimes do shun more conservative views. Now, saying that, I do think Hollywood likes the shock value gay shows provide from a financial aspect to a large degree also. Did Brokeback Mountain do as well as it did due to a certain "shock" factor, my guess is yes.

You are correct on all points you make. However, "Hollywood" doesn't run the corporation. CEOs do and stockholders do. Their only goal is cash - not agendas.

Sidenote: The actor that plays Cameron is not gay.
Yeah, I heard he basically just acts like his mother.

I would include the CEOs of Paramount, Universal, etc. as part of Hollywood.

Do we agree that CEO's make more money the more profitable their company is? If so, I stand by my belief that priority #1 (and #2 ain't close) is profitability. If they thought that showing "homos" kissing on TV would hurt ratings ie ad $$ there would no gays on TV. Period.

In some ways Speilberg is one of those CEO's since I believe he has a large ownership in a production company. When making Schindler's List my guess is showing appreciation of what Mr. Schindler did had much more of a priority than the box office the movie brought in. Spielberg is probably to the extreme but I just use him as an example.

Basically I would say profitability and political leanings are both very important among the big wigs in the production companies.

In a similar way to how I am sure Howard Stern (who would deny being a corporate big wig but really is due to his influence on the direction his show goes and its overall operations) loves the money he makes on his show which pushes the envelope on societal morals. I have no doubt that if completely changing direction on his show were to triple viewership and income also, he would not change his direction either.

Spielberg is a large owner of DreamWorks but it is 20th Century Fox that owns distribution for their movies I think. They are the ones who give the say so as to whether a film gets into a theater and with how much promotion.

Same with any company. And those companies only care about the dollar.

And Cathy (ow whatever the owner of Chickfila's name is) only has the agenda of making money by selling chicken... Nope. Closed on Sunday, play Christian music, he makes money but still has an agenda. Same goes for the Hollywood lefts. They are going to do the things it takes to make money, but there are often very strong agendas involved.

I wont watch shows that glorify homosexuality. I simply don't approve and will not endorse those programs/lifestyles in my home. And I could care less who likes it...

Just like I don't want to see heavy PDA from heterosexuals on TV; I don't want to see it between gays/lesbians on TV. Other than that, I couldn't care less if there are gay characters on television. One would be foolish to believe that seeing a gay person on TV is going to "turn" your children gay.

Which shows glorify homosexuals? Are they being glorified by simply having a homosexual character on the show?

Do you mean "couldn't care less"?

Even on the news. Looking at you Anderson Cooper.

Same here.

Not really sure which shows glorify homosexuals... I will not watch any of them with gay or lesbian characters. And yes I meant "couldn't care less".

So, your original post is misleading. You won't watch any show that has a homosexual character, whether they are "glorified" or not. Gotcha.

The acknowledgement and mainstream display of the homosexual lifestyle is glorifying it. So no my original post is not misleading.... Next...
