So is Mr. Football based on freshman year??? Got a little better supporting cast at Trinity. Timmons has plenty of offers, some from some people who are comparing the two.

But I can argue with the premise. No offense to the defensive players and coaches at Nelson County, Western Hills, Letcher County Central, Frankfort, Scott, West Jessamine or East Jessamine... but I'd be willing to put down some serious money that James Quick would have quite a night running through those defenses. As for putting Timmons on Trinity... yeah, he might have a heck of a season, but Quick is doing extremely well and has the speed to match his skill (sitting state champion at 200m). I've seen a lot of really good high school football players... I haven't seen very many like James Quick.

Tough to know. Certainly Trinity's system makes certain things easier, but that system also gets tested by some of the best competition from Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and right here in Kentucky every single week. What's the give and take between having other good players around you versus playing against less-skilled opponents?

There is a flat difference in the two athletes, and their competition level. I do believe Quick should have comptition for this prize, but that it is within his own team. I am also in no way a Trinity fan.

Apart from that highlight video at the top of the thread, I have not.

There is a similar thread to this one about Conner's Cameron Fogle. All three players are fantastic, and all deserving. I am curious, what are the "real" requirements for Mr. Football? I agree with those that say it's a lock due to the fact that Quick plays for Trinity, and that is not taking anything away from him, he is a very good player, but he plays one side of the ball. Fogle, plays both sides, punts, return kicks. On offense he has lined up at reciever, slot, and running back. I believe that Timmons also plays both sides of the ball. I was personal witness to the Conner Vs. Franklin Co. playoff game last year, and let me say it was electric seeing both Fogle and Timmons in the same game.

 

How did that matchup play out last year? Were Fogle and Timmons head up much in that game?

Its the same every year, just a shame that our Mr. Football is always such a boring debate we can pretty much pick the winner every year before it even starts, who even decides on Mr. Football???? How is it voted on Etc??

The fact is these 2 athletes are very similar in their skill set. Either would do just as well switching teams with Timmons at Trinity and Quick at Franklin. Trinity fans need to realize that Timmons is a freak in speed and quickness regardless of Francklin's schedule. Francklin's fans need to realize showing highlights of Timmons going 50 yards untouched against a team who had no run force defender even lined up on that side of the field doesn't mean much. Showing wide open catches with no defender in the frame, or 3 guys missing arm tackles because of terrible technique is equally useless.

 

Mr.Football is voted on by media in this state. Pre-season hype is a factor because the media basically watch their local teams just like you do. Hype-hoopla-name recognition and stats are sometimes more important than talent in Mr.Football races.

If I am not mistaken Jason Frakes has a vote and he normally doesn't cast his vote until after the state finals in case there is a player he hasn't seen. I know he waited until after he saw Rees Macshara and Antonio Andrews before he cast his vote in 2009.

 

And yes, if there is a journalist who watches more high school football than Jason Frakes then that is a hard working and informed journalist.

Timmons is the two time defending 100 champion and defending 200 champion in his class as well. This is a stupid arguement all it leads to is people trying to point out flaws in the kid they don't think should win it. Personally, I'm a Timmons guy but I'm biased as can be in the arguement. Both are great players and well deserving. I expect great things from both in college, they might end up on the same team.
