Doh! Romney does it again

Found this on a friend's Facebook wall:

I woke up early this morning and drove my daughter several miles on a government-built road, all the way to a government-operated school.

I came back to my home — for which I receive a government-sanctioned mortgage-interest deduction — and called my parents, who both receive Social Security and Medicare from the government. Then I signed on to the Internet, which was developed by government-sponsored researchers.

...

So Mitt Romney is right, on two counts. I am “dependent upon government.” And I’m not voting for him.

Quite honestly that facebook post is stupid. How does she think the government funds the building of roads, funds schools, and pays her parents social security and medicare? In essence the government builds or creates nothing. All the government has managed to do is ruin two the programs she mentioned and is on the way to destroying education.

Found this on a friend's Facebook wall:

The government paid roads were paid with gasoline taxes - probably a state road paid with the state portion of the taxes put on every gallon of gas. No one is challenging the way that works.

The school was paid for with state property taxes - of which is from her home.

Her home deduduction does not likely equal the property taxes above. So she she still pays more in taxes for owning a home.

None of the things above are being questioned by Romney.

Did she get her share of Solyndra stock or GM stock? The taxpayers own those companies. One is gone, the other will likely go through bankrupcy a second time. Even if it does not the taxpayers will likely get stuck with at least 1/2 a billion (with a b) dollars for giving the company to the UAW. Her daughter will pay for that since the money to do it was borrowed.

Government - especially state and local governments do a lot of things. And collect a lot of valid taxes to do so. But that should not be confused with nationalized re-distribution handled by an elite few in Chicago style political bribes.

I don't think he's accurate.

I also don't think the Reagan "came from behind" angle against Carter in 1980 is accurate either. While that one was a closer race, Reagan led most of the summer according to Gallup and Harris Interactive and all of October according to Harris that year (Carter actually saw a boost during the Iraq-Iran war which started in September as well). Historically, debates haven't mattered that much.

Well I sure did screw this one up. I meant to say Reagan trailed Carter not Mondale. My bad.

If I read the chart correctly Reagan didn't trail Carter after September I believe.

Looks to me like Carter lead until late October. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

Gallup also had Carter over Reagan in Sept. 1980 | Times 247

Reagan surged in summer and peaked during convention. Then they spiked Carter in mid-September to late October.

A view from the uber-left on the data...

Daily Kos: Mitt Romney's 1980 fantasy

You hit on an interesting point (at least to me).

I contend Mr Romney is taking the same (failed) path as Sen McCain. He is not being his true self. He's trying to appeal to the far right of the party when, in reality, that's not him or his policies.

What's killing me is people act like Romney was on CNN and said this to 300MM American's. He was at a private event and was answering questions. Which brings up another point, what was the question he was answering? I would love to hear what Obama says in private to money people. Romney for all intents and purposes as been center right in his campaign.

I would like to hear the missing 2 minutes.

As I said early on, there should be room for honest debate on entitlements.

But the most recent polling coming in suggests that this has really backfired on Candidate Romney. The fact that his spin control basically consisted of doubling down on the comments hasn't helped either. There's still time for him to turn things around but right now "nosedive" might be appropriate.

I already knew that Mr. Romney wasn't looking out for my best interests; so while I can see why dissing such a large percentage of the population was offensive, it wasn't a big surprise to me.

What WAS a big surprise was his notion that Israeli-Palestinian relations are irreparable, and that his policy is to punt and hope for the best.

I would like to hear the missing 2 minutes.

So it's okay for people to take Obama's one sentence...'you didn't build this on your own' from a five minute speech that touched on multiple topics but as soon as Romney has a snippet taken from his 'private speech for campaign fundraisers that was secretly videotaped' the missing two minutes want to be seen?

Hmmmmmm......I smell a double standard.

Here's a shocker. Candidate Romney is now the champion of the 100 percent and just for good measure is the grandfather of Obamacare.

Candidate Romney has been described by many as a "data miner" (probably accurate at least as far as heading up Bain Capital); drifting in whatever direction the wind is currently blowing.
