"All right -- there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent on government, who believe that, that they are victims, who believe that government has the responsibility to care for them. Who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing."

I am not sure what Romney said that was incorrect. Obama is for bigger government, I don't think anyone can deny that. Romney is for smaller government. If people are dependent on government, they are going to tend to vote for someone who wants bigger government. What is wrong with that logic. If Romney stepped in anything, it may be the truth.

The problem is that welfare, in MOST cases, is a stop gap measure, used for help. People who depend on it live crappy lives and don't want to live on it. Why would they vote for someone who most on here say wants them to stay. They would vote for folks who would change the system.

 

The other problem is that the 47% are primarily the elderly and children..

Plus I'd venture to guess that a lot of those independents that Romney is already failing to reach would find it interesting that because they voted for Obama that they are just looking for a handout. The fact that anyone can say these statements are the truth show just how far out of touch the right wing has gotten. If you don't agree with us you must be a looking for a handout or you're just a socialist tree hugging hippie.

The truth can be painful sometimes. I would love to be able to conduct an expirement, in which we could divide the country into TWO parts geographically. The liberal, big government types would live on left/west side of the country, and the conservative, small government types on the east/right. The catch would be that left would have to live by liberal policies, the right by conservative policies. Both sides would be required to be TOTALLY independent of each other, meaning no help to the other. Would be REAL interesting to see which side would be the most prosperous. Sounds like a GREAT theme for a reality show on an island or something, although I generally do not like reality TV.

At least in the county where I live, and most of the surrounding counties, I know family after family that use entitlement programs as a way of life. They encourage their kids to "get on the draw" as soon as possible. They never attempt to get a job. One lady in a grocery store a few years ago when asked how she was doing, she replied, "The good Lord has blessed me. My last youngun' just got SSI and a medical card." And she had around 10 children!
