September 12, 201214 yr So, do you prefer abortion as population control over what I suggested? I think maybe self control would prevail at some point, do you? Has it in China, India and Africa?
September 12, 201214 yr Mercy killing. Tell that fetus with a heartbeat that they are better off dead. Then walk away. You know what? That's a convenient response for those who do not recognize the world as a harsh, cruel place. We have it great in this country, even with the current malaise we're in. Fact is, life is cheap, and harsh. The fact that American news agencies have cut staff to the point that there is zero coverage of what goes on in foreign countries does nothing but shield the American public into a false sense of security about what's really going on. Unfortunately, a lot of them would be be better off never arriving, given how ugly this world is and how much worse it's going to get as resources are stretched to the limit in the process of nourishing an ever-growing population. If the concept of souls works like Christianity professes, what difference does it make? They'll just go back into the well and get another chance.
September 12, 201214 yr Yes. What's another potato in the pot when that one just might cure cancer? Or go on a rampage and kill 30 or so folks. That argument got killed earlier. I'll repeat it, since it didn't take the first time. Two-way street.
September 12, 201214 yr If the birthrate ever got to that place where we were wedged in like sardines, well, I'd probably support mandatory vasectomies after you father 2 children or tubal ligation after 2 for women. Smarter option than murder. Not to mention, we are humans, not dogs or hamsters. With pressure comes change. What is exactly your definition of morally superior? What about simply moral? If one believes abortion is murder, what makes that morally superior? Wouldn't it be, in that person's definition, morally right? Not superior. If superior, superior to what? You know that if you institute something like that you would be forcing millions of Americans to violate their religious doctrines? I thought those type things were important to you. Guess not, since it ain't your religion being violated ...
September 12, 201214 yr Currently, the world population stands at around 6 billion. How much space do those 6 billion people occupy? Naturally, they're scattered all over the world but here's a visual for you that puts it all in perspective. If everyone had a 2x2 foot plot to stand on, you could fit the entire population of the world in Jacksonville, Florida. That may sound incredible but it's true. There are 758 square miles in Jacksonville. That's nearly 22 billion square feet. Of course it's not practical, but the earth is a big place. Most of Jacksonville is uninhabitable swampland. There's a reason it's so spread out. Because people can't live there. I'm not spinning anything, I'm just asking if abortion is being seen as a way to control population. And to answer your question again, I don't know but fly from Kentucky to California and look out the window. There's plenty of space in the midwest for a few more people. As AJG said, those places are where food comes from. I went to Iowa a couple weeks ago and saw what the lack of water did to our nation's corn crop. But hey, let's go ahead and reclaim that land for high-rises to house all these extra people that this world apparently needs. One good thing that might come from that is the price of food would grow astronomically, and help me and all these other fatasses in the US drop weight by the dozens, since they won't be able to afford their groceries. Granted I don't know many women who have killed their unborn children but the few (3 to be exact) that I do know about did it strictly as a matter of convenience. One even went so far as to say she couldn't be bothered with a baby. In fact she seemed rather proud of the fact that she was so easily able to rid herself of that inconvenience and was very open about having aborted a child. There may well be women that emotionally struggle with an abortion but I really doubt it that it is a majority. Ah, yes. Three is definitely representative enough to conduct a survey.
September 12, 201214 yr Author Has it in China, India and Africa? China's workforce is set to decrease by 40% over the next 30 years.
September 12, 201214 yr Author Or go on a rampage and kill 30 or so folks. That argument got killed earlier. I'll repeat it, since it didn't take the first time. Two-way street. Doesn't killing 30 people help control population growth? One of those 30 might have killed 50 the next week.
September 12, 201214 yr Ah, yes. Three is definitely representative enough to conduct a survey. Maybe not enough for a survey but as someone else did, I expressed an opinion based on my experience. Guess since my view doesn't jibe with yours then mine doesn't count. Based on the responses in this thread does anyone believe that the left isn't engaging in a war on babies? Heck, they've got otherwise compassionate people pulling ways to justify killing them out of everywhere.

What I am trying to do is point out that the issue is MUCH more complex than overturning R v. W. and making sure ones vote is cast with the candidate who says what one wants to hear. My posts are meant to cast some perspective on the issue beyond the political talking points. The answer to stopping abortions isn't about making it difficult, illegal or rationalizing exceptions.
September 12, 201214 yr You know that if you institute something like that you would be forcing millions of Americans to violate their religious doctrines? I thought those type things were important to you. Guess not, since it ain't your religion being violated ... Yep, because murder is a much better option. I get it. Abortion doesn't fit in with my religious beliefs now. But that doesn't really matter that they're violated , right? Edited September 12, 201214 yr by spindoc

The answer to stopping abortions isn't about making it difficult, illegal or rationalizing exceptions. Sorry RockMom that is candy coated answer. The answer isn't always education and more funding. Those are excuses. Abortion is murder. I don't consider myself a one issue voter and have voted for those that are pro-choice, but our country is wrong on this issue. Should we "ease out" the old folks in nursing homes too. They have no useful purpose anymore. Oh, and they are using resouces (water and food) that could be put to better use.

If you're interested, you will ask what needs to happen. It seems you would rather engage in hyperbole, though, and I ain't goin' there on this one.

And how would your response be different versus the elderly in an incapacitated state in a nursing home facility?
September 12, 201214 yr Ok I'll ask...what are the positives about abortion? And how would your response be different versus the elderly in an incapacitated state in a nursing home facility? You are missing my entire point. Please show me where I have said I support abortion.
September 12, 201214 yr You are missing my entire point. Please show me where I have said I support abortion. Please let me know your point then. To not be against abortion is to support it would be my statement.
