The score could have been worst if not for Colerain turning the ball over a few times.

Was very surprised by Colerain's O. Not what I was used to seeing or expecting. Don't know how much of that was for X's "benefit". Won't surprise me if Colerain doesn't attempt 5 passes against X next weekend. Congrats to both teams for a hard played game.

Colerain was good, better than I thought. Solid players on both sides. Here is a stat I saw last night in rebuttal to the "questionable calls." Colerain was penalized last year for 145 yards. So I wouldn't go so far as saying the homer or getting jobbed comments. I noticed they are very physical. I did see a lot of the penalties they called. Anyone who has coached or refereed knows you could call a hold on every play. But they showed that chop block and it was plain as day. I'd say maybe these refs are just more safety conscious than the normal group and if it's my kid out there, I like that. I didn't feel that Ryle was getting homer calls at all. Honestly, I think they were getting terrible spots on almost every running play up the gut. No credit for second effort before whistle.

Does anybody have an opinion about playing your starting QB as an outside LB? If I'm offensive coordinator and I see that, I'm pulling OL and making sure he is on the ground on every play. Seems like an unnecessary risk to me, especially in a non-district game.

Lots of TD's called back. I use to think KY officiating was underrated but the film doesn't lie. this was a bad crew trying to keep the score close. Also C town looked to be working on a lot of things on O as opposed to barreling in. Overall it was what I expected

Let me start with saying I think they will compete in NKY 6A. I saw enough to believe that. They just do not have Colerain speed but no one in NKY does.

 

However, it was a dreadful offensive game plan to watch. I get they're a running team and they will have success running. But throw the ball just to keep them honest. There was no need for Colerain to worry about the occasional pass. The end of the first half was baffling. It didn't look like they were trying to score and let the clock run down to try a 49 yd FG.

 

They can be solid. They just need to pass a bit. Tonight was the perfect night to work on it. Missed opportunity IMO.

 

Amen. W/ all of those boys in Union, can they not find a QB who can throw consistently? Davis is a good runner, but he makes them way too one dimensional...again. I also didn't understand what was going on at the end of the first half. It was like the coaches were afraid to take a chance.

 

I really like the twins that played on the outside for Colerain. Reminded me of mini Tyler Moellers.

Exactly. Colerain is not going to throw the ball half as much next week against St. X. Bolden knew that this game was in the bag before it started. He came in using it as an extra scrimmage to work on the passing game.

I got back in town in time last night to check this game out on Fox. This quote from another site pretty much sums up Ryle's approach.

The Cardinals had so much team speed and they had some hitters on defense. I thought they could have scored a couple more times but dumbed down their offense late in the game. I think they also started subbing in some guys to start the 4th qtr.

 

Ryle's Davis is a hard runner and can take a shot but did not see him throw the ball one time. Where is Travis Pavy for Ryle? Did he play?

 

Pulice is a nice runner but man he layed down on an interception return just whiffing at the guy as he ran by him and he also missed a block where Davis got Tattoo'd. If I am the QB in that situation I get into him in the next huddle. No excuse for missing a block that gets your QB destroyed.

I didn't understand what Ryle was doing just before halftime either. They should have attempted another pass or two instead of letting time run off the clock like they did.

That is always a problem at Ryle and Boone. They didn't throw much w/ Hempel, they certainly won't with Davis.
