Memorable 10th Region Games

Featured Replies

Also because Bracken County was involved, the 1992 Class A Finals between the Polar Bears & heavily favored Nicholas County. The Ice Palace was rocking that night, as Mark Tucker & company scored the big upset over Daniel Brown & company.

Also, I remember Paris vs. Harrison County in the opening round of the District Tournament. It was Jerry Fogle's senior year & Harrison ended up pulling away a bit. But for most of the game, it was nip-and-tuck.

I think the 1998 team won the Class A 50-49 over Brossart.

Dont know how i found this thread...lol.

I was at both games i was 11 in at thr 92 All A and the 98 All A was my senior yr. The 98 team played 3 close games to win the All A. If memory serves 10 points total or less in all three victories combined. Played Hazard in first round of state and lost by 20. Also that yr a memorible game personally was when my polar bears defeated Mason county in the Mason co. Invitational at the fieldhouse.

The 92 All A team played the state at Rupp!! I think that was the first and last time the All A state was at Rupp. The polar bears lost in the first round to Lexington Christian i belive.

If it wasn't less than 10, it was darn close. Took out a very good SG team in the first round. Beat St. Patrick on late FT heroics by Nathan Reed (I think), then the classic final win over Brossart.

The 1992 Final is a much bigger memory for me, as I was a sophomore then. Blew out MMI in the opener...won an absolute slugfrest (literally) over Augusta in the semis, then upset Nicholas in the finals.

1992 team lost by 40 to Lexington Catholic at Rupp.

The bright lights just got to us...that, Vondale Morton, and Devon Davis. LOL We did hold an early 3-0 lead in this one. Bracken got the tip and Mark Tucker drained a 3.

It may be in this thread somewhere, didn't take time to look, but can you provide any more details about that Brossart game.

Free throws were by Adam Reed. He is Nathan's older brother and was my senior classmate.

As for the slugfest if I remember right (I was only 11) wasn't it Jason Tuel and _________ Snapp right at the start of the game like just before the tip off the was jawin each other and almost threw down at the center circle. If in not mistaken the Snapp guys son is Camyrn and he is a sophomore and starts for Augusta today. And I believe Snapp is an assistant coach at Augusta too.

It wasn't a region game but I remember back when Estill County upset Clark County in the first round of the district tournament 50-49 over at Montgomery County. Clinton Dixon with the "and 1" three point play to win the game for the Engineers

2007 regional finals....GRC over Mason Co. Miller and Knowles both go off for 33 points.

Great game indeed Goldie. But I recall a tremendous game in the 2007 regional semi-final game between Scott & GRC. Scott held a 1 point lead with 14 seconds left in the game and Robbie Stenzel made two free throws to give GRC the lead and Scott's last second shot rolled off the rim. Great game but also a sad day for me as it ended my son's high school career.

I knew it was one of the Reed boys.

Yes the slugfest was between Jason Snapp and Jason Tuel. It happened during the game though.

Nicholas lead most of the game..was up 3 late and holding the ball, when Daniel Brown shot an I'll-advised three from way out. Bracken rebounds and cuts the lead to one.

Polar Bears made a stop and got the ball back. Sean Stewart hit a baseline jumper over an outstretched defender with a few tick left to take the lead and the rest is history.

Are we talking about the same game?

You said Brossart and my head was still in 1992. LOL

That game was a battle... We had played Brossart a few weeks prior in the MCIT finals, and they won by double digits. Nathan Seiter did what he wanted to, when he wanted to and Adam reed was held to 1.

In the All-A (at Deming), Bracken threw several different defenses at BB. I don't remember if either team had a lead of any real margin. It was destined to be the team with the ball last would win, and that's what happened. Brossart had a desperation shot that missed. If there's 5 more seconds left, Brossart probably wins.

No problem.

Thanks for the info!

How about this one? ...........way back to 1984......St. Patrick vs. Estill County in the 10th Region Tournament.......St. Pat was a double digit underdog and pulled off the upset.

Brossart had made several trips to Deming that week, and defeated maybe the best Paris team in modern history, and the top team in the tournament.

Brossart and Bracken played tight in the finals, but the big play was with just seconds to go and Brossart inbounding the ball, Adam Reed grabbed Chris Hagedorn's jersey and pulled him over on him, and the official bit. Bracken County took the lead, but Brossart had a chance to win, but Nathan Seiter lost the handle on a layup attempt as he was releasing it at the buzzer and couldn't get it to go.

Leaving me with a bag of 10th Region "A" Champion T-Shirts, to take to the Indian kids in Canada on my next fishing trip. Those were great teams and great games back then.

Brossart came back and beat Bracken County in (I thinK) the district finals in the Campbell middle-school. Seiter was having back spasms before the game, but played and scored 30-something anyway. We went on the regional finals where we were defeated by an excellent Fleming County team.
