You never heard of PEMDAS?? That phrase was beat into my skull as a child.

 

I had never heard of it either. Though I know I got it right. And not the Voice of Reason type of "I got the answer right...".

I am with you. Though I loved Calculus. Sometimes I think I missed my calling in not dealing with more numbers.

When solving linear equations, the math order of operations dictates what functions we do in what order.

 

1. Parenthesis

2. Exponents

3. Multiplication and Division in whichever order they appear in the equation

4. Addition and Subtraction in whichever order they appear in the equation

 

Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction, thus PEMDAS

 

Since the Multiplication and Division are done in the order they appear, same with Addition and Subtraction, then the acronym could be PEDMAS or PEDMSA
