I am a tad behind here and have googled the topic a bit. Please correct any of my misconceptions:

 

1) The owner spoke out (somewhere?) against gay marriage.

2) Further, he alludes to gay marriage bringing God's judgment against us.

3) He mentions nothing of refusing gay customers or not hiring gay individuals.

4) He is happy to be with his "first wife" (found that amusing.)

 

My own opinion: I don't know if homosexuality is a sin or not. That is not for me to decide.

 

I don't agree with the owner's stance. I think that people that are gay should have the right to be legally joined and have with that all that comes with marriage between a man and a woman. I would prefer that marriage be a religious institution and if one church feels that it is right to marry a gay couple and another not, I am fine with that.

 

I have never eaten at Chick-Fil-A and probably won't choose to do so in the future.

I'll look around for a link, but Chick-Fil-A's tax records show that they've also donated several million dollars to groups that are Christian charities that mostly do a lot of good but certainly have a record of supporting legislation against gay marriage and some of them have involvement in those pray-the-gay-away "cures" for homosexuality.

 

As for me, I don't eat at Chick-Fil-A, but that's mostly because it's just not close to anywhere I live or work. I used to eat the heck out of some waffle fries at the one on campus at UofL. In the end, I get where the people who are upset are coming from, but trying to put political judgment into ALL of your consumer thinking is darn near to impossible.

McDonald's "Southern Style Chicken Sandwich" is a direct rip-off of the original Chik-Fil-A. If you've had that, you've had a Chik-Fil-A sandwich. The fact that McDonalds felt the need to create their own, demonstrates the popularity and market share of Chik-Fil-A.

 

If you've never eaten at a Chik-Fil-A, Dan loses nothing from you. So that is a wash.

 

Went by the one in Oldsmar, yesterday at lunchtime. The parking lot was packed and the drive through line was backed around the building. Too bad, too. I had me a hankerin' for an and original and a large order of waffle fries. Their coffee is killer, too, BTW.

Given my opinions to this point, I need to point out that, as a Libertarian, I am in no way against the boycott. Boycotts are a political control mechanism of a free market economy. The market will correct itself based on the effectiveness of the boycott upon which segment the boycott is directed.

 

I just feel, in this case, that the boycott's effectiveness is deterred by the object's indifference to the loss of business and the lack of sympathy of the patrons of the object, to the issue itself over their desire to obtain the product.

Large part due to the fact that they are not everywhere, and in most cases theres only one or two in major areas. Unlike say McDonalds, where there is one every exit on the interstate from Dry Ridge to Cincy (or almost).

McD's is a cheap imitation. Nowhere near the quality of the original Chicfila sandwich.

I love me some Chick-Fila...just don't get it as often as I'd like and this won't deter me from continuing to go there.

OK. Now I'm getting peeved. Went for lunch today and, again, the place was overrun. The anti-boycott is getting annoying.

The quality of my chicken sandwich is MUCH more important than if I agree with the owner's stance on gays. Let's just hope they don't find out that an ingredient in the chicken is what causes "the gay".

Based on the amount I have eaten since I was a kid it must be in an extremely low doses.

 

My friends and I are the reason Greenwood Mall in Bowling Green would only let you get 1 free sample of their nuggets.

If you google around on the Internet you will find both anti-gay and racist rumors surrounding Chick Fil A. Having the owner come out and say it probably leads credence to those rumors.

 

I'm with swamprat and believe that a boycott is a consumers way to exercise control over the market. But as much as I do believe in the boycott and fully support gay marriage --- their chicken is just too damn good.
