July 16, 201214 yr Proving once again, we all interpret things differently, I didn't see Romney running from the issue of outsourcing at all. . It's 100% running from the claim that he was part of the outsourcing decisions. Why else would they even be having this "February 1999 end date" debate? Stream Intl, Modus Media, and SMTC are 3 businesses that Bain acquired and then chose to outsource many of the jobs. Those 3 were acquired and outsourced in 1999. Mr Romney's Feb 1999 declaration is solely to distance himself from that outsourcing. LN, I never thought nor have heard anyone else ever say that this date debate was nothing other than linking or distancing from the outsourcing issue. Regarding the Obama campaign lying, I'd say it's hard to say at this point since there are so many people looking into this and finding discrepancies. Here's a new one: Romney's Account of His Departure From Bain Undercut By...Romney Testimony | Mother Jones Trying to clarify this, the lawyer, after referring to this "transition," asked, "So from February through the end of the year you were pretty much full-time out in Utah, right?" Romney replied: "Well again, the beginning of the year was a good deal of time back and forth, but towards the last half of the year it was pretty much exclusively in Utah." So when did he actually officially leave? Why didn't he and his advisors handle this properly upfront and just say "here's what I did and when?" I'm not sure what you're saying with the P&G example.
July 16, 201214 yr Obama has been the leader of out-sourcing on the tax payers dime. Seems he would want to discuss that also.
July 16, 201214 yr Obama has been the leader of out-sourcing on the tax payers dime. Seems he would want to discuss that also. I'm not familiar with that but if true then I would imagine we will hear it soon in a campaign ad soon and it would be fair game. All candidates have to live with their choices and having the other side point out something that you did or an policy you supported is fair. With Mr Romney's differing answers and continued backpedaling on this issue it's more than fair to raise the issue. Outsourcing jobs in a time of high unemployment is a fair debate to have. I wish more jobs would stay but I fully understand the economics of it. Too many people fail to realize that in some , if not many, cases choosing to only hire Americans could cause EVERY American employed at said company to lose their job. It's a fair debate.

The P&G example was in response to this statement that you made: "However, it's a bit disingenuous for him to believe that the company suddenly changed tactics AFTER he left." I was simply pointing out that I have seen companies make sudden and dramatic policy changes shortly after management changes. P&G is a perfect hometown example of that happening. As for the Mother Jones article, I put about as much stock in what a journalist for Mother Jones says as you do in what's reported by Rush. It is wild speculation to conclude that just because he spent some time transitioning away from Bain in early 1999, he had to have been involved in the outsourcing decisions. Being on the Board does not prove that he was involved in the outsourcing decisions. Unfortunately the average American doesn't even realize what a Board of Directors is or the Board's responsibilities. Edited July 16, 201214 yr by True blue (and gold)

July 16, 201214 yr Come on mc, you're better than that. Did I say I supported outsourcing? Nope. But I live in a community and region that has benefitted greatly from foreign investment creating jobs for Kentuckians. Those are jobs outsourced from other countries. The global economy is here. With it comes jobs being created in the countries where it makes the most sense for them to be located. If you are going to damn outsourced jobs at least be fair and acknowledge that a whole lot of jobs have been created for Americans as a result of them being outsourced from somewhere else into America. Understood and agreed. What I question is where we are with respect to "net" jobs, if you will; and candidate Romney's record on that score.
July 16, 201214 yr What is the net jobs figure for our current president? Seems to me that would be much more relevant to the upcoming election discussion, good or bad. Has anyone seen a number?

Unfortunately the average American doesn't even realize what a Board of Directors is or the Board's responsibilities. 1. P&G and a company like Bain do not have not take the same approach. P&G takes a longer view than a company like Bain. Bain et al are looking to get in and out quickly with a big profit. Therefore, I stand behind my contention that Mr Romney shared the views of his partners when it came to slashing and outsourcing. 2. You're going to attack the author when he gave a direct quote from Mr Romney to another person in a legal dispute? Unless you do not believe that Mr Romney said "..the beginning of the year...the last half...." then the link I provided is immaterial. TODAY he says Feb 1999. Previously he that for the first half of 1999 he was "back and forth" between the Olympics and Bain. Inconsistencies lead to fair questioning. He and his team have failed on this point. The voters will decide if it's a big deal or not. Edited July 16, 201214 yr by True blue (and gold)
July 16, 201214 yr Obama has been the leader of out-sourcing on the tax payers dime. Seems he would want to discuss that also. This! How many government jobs have been outsourced? How much government money is being outsourced? According to Mandy Connell the uniforms for TSA agents are made by a company in Pakistan for example.

Obama going after Mitt on this issue is akin to Mitt going after Obama on Obamacare. It's a pot-meet-kettle case in both instances.

July 17, 201214 yr I'm sure everyone realizes that hundreds of thousands of Americans have jobs here in the USA because of Bain. 90 thousand jobs with Staples alone.. Several more companies that employ thousands of Americans also remain because of Banes ability to turn failing companies around... But that doesn't make nearly as good a narrative for Obama. He wouldn't let anything like facts get in the way of good old fashioned Chicago politics. So much for getting away from politics as usual.

Several more companies that employ thousands of Americans also remain because of Banes ability to turn failing companies around... I didn't realize that. Is there a credible listing of jobs saved vs jobs shipped out during Romney's time at Bain?
