Agreed. This whole situation has been very vague with more questions than answers. There has to be more to the story.

I talked to Bob at 6:00 p.m. tonite and he was told by Super he was not being renewed for next year. Sorry Beechwood just made a big mistake in letting him go. Super said they need to head in different direction. Sorry about my earlier statement he was not let go. JD

Beechwood could very well wind up back where they were before Bob depending on who they find to replace him. Any chance one if his assistants getting the job?

Bob was not fired. His contract was not renewed. It expires July 1.

 

I give him credit fir not giving in to the parents over the years. He always did what he felt was best for the team. IMO

Coach Meyerhoff did a fantastic job. The record speaks for itself. I am sure everyone at Beechwood thanks Coach for all he did. But everything comes to an end at some point in time. No one from Beechwood should knock Coach because he has earned that respect from all of us with all he did for the school and its baseball program. He elevated the program to a whole new level.

 

To try and explain why he was not renewed I believe it is best explained this way, from all I have heard. It isn't just one or two sets of parents or a couple kids. There are parents and kids that I know and respect a lot that are not whiners, that had no complaints about playing time because their kids played, that know baseball very well ... that believed it was time for a change. I am not sure that there is one varsity baseball player at Beechwood that truly enjoyed baseball this season. If you are the administration and you see all this and hear it, what would you do?

 

If Coach wants to keep coaching, I hope he finds an opportunity. I am sure he will make any program he gets involved with better. Best of luck and thanks for the great memories at Beechwood.

Take into consideration that losing tends to bring about unhappiness and this past season appears to have an aberration from the "typical" Beechwood season?

 

So did something about his coaching style change this year that brought about all this heartache? Have people been as equally unhappy during past years when Beechwood had so much success? Or did the winning cover up some of the upset of past players/parents?

 

The BHS people that I know sure swear by the guy. Actually, I'm not certain I know any BHS baseball people that don't think highly of the guy, though admittedly I don't know any of the current players/families. I just find it hard to believe that things went south so quickly.

Does this mean Coach Rash will go next? I guess Krumps and Max will be going soon from their schools. Who else has been around awhile? I do not understand this comment.

 

As far as the administration....

 

If it were me, I would probably get out and ask what is going on. I would not just decide to let a coach go without some information. The way I see it is this, players play, parents cheer and coaches coach. There were players this year that wanted things their way. I am sure some were urged on by their parents. I wonder how many times Krumps has had players come to him and be told this is who should be playing and where??

 

After BW lost to CCH in the district seed game they were back to school before the JV game was over. There was one parent who walked down by the stands with his player/son, turns and and starts walking back toward the school as he tells his son he is an idiot he should not be coaching. BW lost 10-0 with a least part of the suggested lineup.

 

I will say this, Bob may not be the easiest to get along with at times. He understands what he wants to happen on the field and will speak his mind if he feels you are not doing it. He can be abrasive at times, can't we all. He is not going to be a coach to pat Junior on the head and tell him it is OK you missed the ball or a sign. He is going to get in his butt. This offends some people. I have never had an issue with this when it was needed. The kids have to learn to handle criticism some where.

 

My son played for Bob for 5 seasons. I have not always agreed with some of the decisions. It did not make me want to call the AD, principal or any of that. If I had a lingering issue I would talk with him. I don't understand why people won't talk with the person they have an issue with. Bob being let go will go far beyond what happens between the lines during a game or practice.

I think Meyerhoff's coaching style is either one that you like or really dislike, when playing for him. I had a brother play for the guy and they won a National Championship and let's just say there were a lot of kids; as well as parents that did not and still do not care for the guy. I think he is one of those guys that you either really like (which a lot of people do) or you just can't stand. You can't argue with the guys record and coaching, but there are other things that factor in. One of which is how he relates and deals with people. I know based on my experience from that summer, my kid would not play for the guy.

From what I'm told was in the email that was referenced previously Coach Meyerhoff wasn't happy with his senior class. Some of this senior class had good results in youth leagues coming up that were coached by current Beechwood parents.

 

Should I do the math and think that the unhappy parents who complained to the school were the ones that coached the youth teams and blamed Coach for the success that didn't happen this year?
