Lawnboy...the job requirements for coaching and supervising in industry are not dissimilar. If I had a dime for every supervisor I had to participate in the dismissal of, I could buy a funnel cake at Beechwood's opener.

I have no knowledge of the depth of Coach M's shortcomings or if there were any. However, if you are hugely unpopular with those you supervise, they will find a way of deep sixing you. Fifty years ago the railroaders told me that the trains don't run on time for a martinet supervisor. When I progressed in Industry I saw technically competant people with good early track records get full of themselves and lose perspective of what got them there. I worked up a lot of severance packages in appreciation of past accomplishments when their boss thought the supervisor's inter-personal relations skills had become difficult for his underlings to tolerate.

I just wonder whether Coach M. was talked to about this and failed to see a problem or whether he was "surprised".

I stood in front of the door for a lot of employees whose superviors or managers had not worked with the employee to correct a problem.

After hearing what took place over the weekend wiith the bluegrass team that meyerhoff coaches, sounds like he has issues. He pulled his team off the field and quit in the 5thday inn of the semi final of a tournament because of a bad call by the ump in which they were winning the game, very bad to teach a kid to quit for any reason, I hope there iis more to the story.

That is not at all what happened. The facts should be straight before posting. Bluegrass had a runner coming home with the ball being cut off, therefore there was no play. The catcher fake tagged the runner causing very minimal contact. The runner was called out for trying to run over the catcher and ejected. In discussing the call, one of the coaches said something along the lines of "if this is how it's going to be, maybe we should just quit". The coaches for the other team then ran out and pulled the bases, the umpires left the field and called the game. This was told to me by another one of the coaches that night.

Well my post did have facts right wildcat, you said they QUIT who does that? Quiters never win and WINNERS NEVER QUIT. Not the first time I have heard this about this team.

Clyde it is childish to quit because of a bad call, it happens daily. Remember the kid that would quit and take his ball and go home? LOL

If true, how is this not a forfeit to Meyerhoff's Bluegrass team? I thought there was a rule in the lower amateur leagues against "fake tagging". And who made the statement, one of Meyerhoff's coaches or one of the opposing coaches?

I'm not getting in the normal stupidity on here. All I did was state that they did not QUIT! One of the Bluegrass coaches stated that they might as well quit if that's the kind of calls they were going to get and the JB Yeager coaches bolted out of the dugout and pulled the bases while the umpires headed for the gates leaving everyone standing around wondering what was happening. The tournament director said there was nothing he could do. As far as I know, the catcher should have been the one tossed for the fake tag and creating the contact

That's pretty shabby on the opposing coaches scurrying on the field to grab bases and take off. Pretty interesting that the Blues and Tourney Director followed right behind. Sounds like they didn't want to be there.....heat maybe?

I talked to one of Bob's assistants at a local church I attended recently about the whole situation as I wasn't sure what was happening. To keep it short and simple, things were said that shouldn't have been said and many people (including parents and administration) weren't happy about it. Bob has had some "personal" problems he has been dealing with recently and it affected his duties as a coach and helped lead to what has happened today. While it is unfortunate, I do hope Bob is able to get another job and based on what I discussed with the assistant coach Bob will be continue to coach it is just a matter of where.

 

Based on the discussions, Lloyd has already said they would take him if he wants to be there although Bob is also exploring some other opportunities. I won't name the assistant coach on here but if you wish to know who he is just message me for the details.
