In this case it meant I posted something that was intended for a topic in the general discussion forum and accidentally posted it here instead...Alot of times it means what ^ he said as well...

I'm surprised by your statement. You seem to be real quick to throw out stats and your favorite manager is obsessed with them. You seem to forget how the Cards took charge late last year, went 23-9 over their final 32, erased a 10 1/2 game deficit and went on to win it all. Bottom line this team is offensively challenged as the stats so clearly show and if they don't get better the very same thing could happen again this year Pujols or no Pujols. Now granted a 10 1/2 game deficit would be almost impossible for this Cards team to overcome but the last few years there have been several teams make late charges and they ususally do it with offense. Pitching can carry you a long way but this starting staff has yet to show a lot of consistency other than Cueto. I have to believe that if the Reds are still close come late July that Jocketty will try to strengthen this bench and maybe even rent a left fielder to try to put them over the top. A top notch starter might not be out of the question, maybe a Dempster who knows the division and might be able to help this staff.

2. If the pitching holds up, it doesn't matter what the offense does. Good pitching, beats good hitting. The offense is good enough to get this team to the playoffs, with the pitching staff they have. How far they go in the playoffs depends greatly on the shoulders of Latos, IMO. The Reds were fifth in the NL in runs scored in June going into today, and in the Middle of the pack for the whole season. The offense isn't great, but it isn't as bad as you all want it to be.

 

3. The Reds are fifth in the league in ERA. Leake has been outstanding his like 9 (I believe) starts. Cueto has been Cueto. The other three have taken turns being good and baad. Still good enough for first place. If Walt makes a move at the deadline I'd rather it be for another pitcher. I don't think anyone is going to be available who can help the Reds offense for what they're going to be willing to give up.

 

4. I throw out stats that are meaningful. Like the Reds being 43-34 and a game ahead of the Pirates and 3.5 games ahead of the Cardinals (who are the real threat). I'd put a lot of money on the Pirates fading like they did last year. I mean how long can AJ Burnett have this good of a year?

While they may very well fade I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the Pirates. Their pitching has been just as good as the Reds. And I would say that AJ Burnett is just as likely to keep his performance up as Mike Leake is.

Crawford is signed through 2017. He's due to make over $20 million for '12 & '13, then $21 million for '15 & '16 & almost $22 million for '16 & '17. With that type of deal, only a handful of teams can afford Crawford. The Reds are not one.
