Our friend Alabama Larry has passed.

I haven't been on in a few days and just saw this thread. I am very sorry to hear AL has passed and my heart goes out to his family. Clyde I will try and figure out the PayPal thing and make a donation. What a fantastic idea and thanks to all that took the time to post in this thread and contribute. I read through every post this morning and although I didn't know AL after reading these heartfelt posts I certainly do now. BGP is a great community.

Big ups to Sportsfan for his donation.

By my count, I think we are at 52 members now who have donated to the fund so far. Could be more that have written checks directly that we don't know about.

I know of at least 3 who have written their own check.

My PayPal shows 48 payments received.

I sent a check yesterday. Alabama Larry was a great person and one of the best posters on BGP. He will be missed.

Time to cut the check. I will be sending a check for $1,100 to the FCA scholarship fund.

Well done, folks.

That is awesome.

I included the following note with the check.

With sadness in our hearts but also joy in the memories of the “discussions” we all had with Larry “Alabama Larry” White please accept this $1,100 donationto the Larry B White Scholarship Fund from the Bluegrasspreps.com community .

Very few of the BGP members actually ever met Alabama Larry but we all feel like we knew the man. It was evident by his loyalty to God, Mama, and Alabama football (in that order) that he was a man of passion and love. Many of us had spirited discussions with Larry about religion. What made him so special was that he was consistent, honest, and committed in his faith. Even when someone challenged him and got a bit sideways with Larry he was always respectful and let you know he would pray for you. In other words, he walked the walk that many of us struggle with.

It’s fitting that his family chose that there be a FCA scholarship in his name. He loved to yap about Bama, Louisville Male, his son the kicker, the Yankees, and sports in general. Combine that with the fire he had in his soul and it’s a great combination.

It may seem odd to some but our online community is saddened for our loss but thrilled for Larry as he takes his next step in his journey that he has been preparing for so long.

Sincerely,

The BGP Community

Thanks to Clizzy for taking the lead and big props to the BGP family. The note is a very nice touch as well.

I'll never forget the day that I was sitting in my Grandmother's kitchen with my mom & my Grandmother (two extremely devout Catholics). We were playing cards (my grandmother's favorite). The game stopped, and we began talking about my uncle's fairly recent diagnosis of lung cancer. Uncle Joe was not doing well and it was evident that he was going to lose his battle with cancer. Then, my grandmother said something to the effect that, if Uncle Joe could spend eternity with the Lord, he may not even want to remain on this Earth.

Grandmother's comment resonated with me and showed me how strong her beliefs were. Judging from his posts alone, there's no doubt that Alabama Larry falls into a similar category. Although it came earlier than anyone would wish, there's no doubt in my mind that Larry was ready. May he rest in peace.

Clyde, you are the man. Super job and I'm a better person for knowing you. I know AL is reading this thread and smiling. Kudos to you my man.

I appreciate the kind words, folks, but all I did was collect the money.

I will sleep very peacefully tonight, on this somber day... AL is with our maker, and this online community has reached out to help others, somewhere out there.......today...was a good day!

Yeah, but you spearheaded this thing & was on top of it from the get-go. It may not seem like a huge task to you, but trust us when we give you props for doing this. I know if I could have personally hand-picked anyone for the task, it would have been you.

As others have said, it's so cool to see all of us come together for this man most of us never met, but also will never forget. What has happened in this thread over the last few days will impact the lives of others for a long, long time.

I'm proud of us.
