April 23, 201214 yr Really FKYW? Are you serious with that comparison? Forgetting to return something that was loaned to you and later realizing it is a totally different situation. To take someone's car from them would require a conscious effort to defraud. Ridiculous comparison.

April 23, 201214 yr Agreed, but unless they made a note on his account, they wouldn't know to check for it. If the supplied by the hotel pillows were in the room with covers on them, why would they look for extra covers laying around. Its kinda like Towels, if you go to the front desk and ask for towels, and they just hand them too you, they really don't know who took them. When a room keeper went into a room to clean it, at least for the company when I was in the business, she made of inventory of what she found in the room. # Towels, # Hand Towels, etc and my desk clerks always asked to see your room key and or you were asked for the room number and name when they gave out towels etc. I don't think a lot of people understand the cost of the articles in the rooms and while it's only one towel etc. it all adds up over time and BTW if we were asked, we usually just said fine take it and thank you!

I am a manager in retail and it's funny catching shoplifters because after they are caught they're willing to pay for it or say they didn't mean to steal. Theft is theft unless it is paid for. In your case it's theft but you didn't mean too. Once paid for or told not to worry about it then your square but technicalities are what they are. :lol:

In Kentucky theft by unlawful taking under $500 is when a person: (a) Takes or exercises control over movable property of another with intent to deprive him thereof; or (b) Obtains immovable property of another or any interest therein with intent to benefit himself or another not entitled thereto. I say it's a mistake not a theft. Considering you're willing to fess up and bring it to the hotel's attention shows me that there was no intent. Therefore, not stealing. However, had you made the discovery and then decided to keep them...then that's another story.

In this case there was no intent. Two very different situations.
April 23, 201214 yr Technically yes you are stealing. Obviously without intent so I would not feel bad. It will probably cost you more to send then back to the hotel than what they are worth. Though the typical skeptic when they pick up the phone will think that is just an attempted clever attempt of stealing the pillow cases.
